MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING IN THE WORKPLACE
StateofMindSportisanorganisationestablishedin2011withtheaimofimprovingthementalhealth,wellbeingandworkinglifeofrugbyleagueplayersandcommunities.Theaimofthecharityistousethepowerofsport,inparticularRugbyLeague,toraiseawarenessof,andpromotementalfitness,wellbeingandresilience,tacklestigmaandtosignposttoandencourageaccesstotimelysupporttoultimatelypreventsuicide.SOMSisnowbranchingintotheexcitingnewareaofMentalHealthFirstAidtrainingintheworkplace.
InconjunctionwithMHFAEnglandwecanofferyouandyouremployeestheopportunitytogainaqualificationfromthesoleprovideroflicensedMentalHealthFirstAidInstructorTraininginEngland(accreditedbytheRoyalSocietyforPublicHealth).Ourtrainingisakeycomponentforcreatingasafe,healthyworkplacewherethementalhealthandphysicalhealthofemployeesarevaluedequally.Itwillgiveyouthetoolstosupportyourownmentalhealthandthatofyourcolleagues.

OUR TRAINERS
PHILIPVEIVERSPhilisoriginallyfromAustraliaandplayed in over 500 games at thetop levelofEnglishandAustralianrugby league. Teams include St.Helens, Huddersfield and SwintonintheUKandSouthSidneyRLFCinAustralia He represented Scotlandand moved into managementwhen his career finished. Hemanaged in over 300 games as acoachandhaswonthegrandfinalwith Bradford Bulls on twooccasions. He also won thechallenge cup and was a worldchampion on two occasions withthe Bulls. He also coached atWiganWarriorsandSalfordwherehe ended up suffering fromdepression from losing his job ontwooccasions.Phil has gladly come through theother sideand isnowapresenterwith SOM where he deliverspresentations around the countrytoloadsofdifferentorganisations.His reason for doing this is to tryand stop any body else goingthrough what he went throughand also to try to help stopmalesuicideashelostanephewtothis.PhilhasnowqualifiedasamentalhealthfirstaidtrainerforSOM.“Myreason fordoing this is to tryand stop anybody else goingthrough what Iwent through andalso to try to help stop malesuicideasIlostanephewtothis.”

Ian is a former Super League Rugby Leaguereferee, having refereed approximately. 300Super League games over a 12-yearprofessional career. After retiring as an activereferee Ianwentonto the refereeingcoachingstaff aswell as continuing as a video ref (VR).He was lucky enough to Referee/VR inAustralia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA,Russia, France and Lebanon. Ian has been anpresenter and ambassador for the State OfMindSportCharitysinceJanuary2017andisaqualifiedMentalHealthFirstAidTutor.

Danny played just under 300 professional rugbyleague games for Rochdale, Wigan, Castleford,Wakefield, Huddersfield, Bradford and Widnes.Dannyplayed8timesforEngland,beforeaseriousspine injury forced him into retirement, Dannysufferedfromdepressionquitebadlyafterthatandcourageously came through the other side,Dannyisnowapresenter for theSTATEOFMINDSPORTcharity.Hespeakstosportsclubs,schools,colleges,universities and workplaces about the importanceof looking after your mental health. Danny HasrecentlyqualifiedtodeliverMentalHealthFirstAidtrainingtoorganisationsonbehalfofStateofMindSport.

Jimmyisanexrugbyleagueplayer,whoin2002,sufferedahorrificinjurybreakinghisneckin2places,puttinganendtohisplayingcareerandchanginghislifeforever.Hehasspenttheyearssincehisinjurypushinghisbodytonewlimits.Hewalkedoutofhospitalafter9hardpainfulmonthsandhassincetakenononechallengeafteranotherthatmostpeoplewouldn’teventhinktheycouldattempt.Jimmydoesallthiswithasmileonhisface.Hispositiveattitudetolifeandtohisownlimitationscan’thelpbutruboffonthosehemeets.Beforehisaccident,Jimmyalsoranhisownverysuccessfulconstructioncompanywithhisfamily.Afterleaving
hospital,knowinghecouldn’treturntohispreviouscareers,knowingrehabilitationwasgoingtobefortherestofhislife,hesawanopportunity,andwithhisfriendandphysiotherapistformedaspecialistrehabilitationunit,whichhasgonefromstrengthtostrengthwinning
nationalandregionalawards.JimmyhasbeenapresenterforStateofMindsinceitsinfancyin2012andhasrecentlyqualifiedasamentalhealthfirstaidtrainer.
