REF 4-H Information Booth

Volunteers Needed!

This year we will be hosting a large information booth inside Carl Purdy Hall. We will have information about the 4-H pro-grams throughout the county and be available to answer questions about 4-H, what we do, where clubs are located and how to join.

The booth will be open If you are already going to be at the fair with your animal, please volunteer an hour or two of you time to help us in the booth. (The building is air conditioned!)

If you are not already at fair and would like to volunteer for a 3 hour shift, Linda will provide you with a one day pass to the fair. Call 707-463-4495 early to reserve your spot, or with questions.

Reminders for Buyers Luncheon at REF Centerpieces

Each 4-H club and FFA chapter are asked to create two centerpieces (more if they would like) for the Buyers Luncheon. They are to reflect the fair theme of Jungle of Fun. If flowers are used, please make them real flowers.

Buyers Luncheon Etiquette

Members are not to solicit buyers during the buyers luncheon. The luncheon is for buyers (past and present) to enjoy themselves and visit with one another. It is not a place for members to ask guests to buy their animals.

ATTENTIONALLCLUBS

This page is dedicated to clubs for their reporters to write articles each month telling what their clubs have been doing. They could write about their club meeting, or interview a member or lead-er. They could choose to highlight a different pro-ject each month. There are many many possibili-ties. Be creative.

As officers are elected this year please make sure they realize that writing for this section of the newsletter is part of their officer responsibilities. To help the reporters understand their job duties better there will be a breakout session for report-ers during the officer trainings that will be held this year.

If your club doesn’t have a reporter then the club secretary is responsible for writing the article. Taking the minutes at each meeting would make it easier for the secretaries to write article.

Everyone likes to read about the fun and different things that clubs are doing; at their meetings, for community service as fundraisers and more!

We have 10 clubs, lets hear from you!

At the Redwood Empire Fair horse show on June 9th, Gracie Silva took reserve high point and won showmanship so she will be showing in the large animal round robin in August at the fair. Gracie will also be going to the Sacramen-to state fair in July and will be representing Long Valley 4H in the horse show there. Horse group will have meetings throughout the sum-mer and hope to do some riding at Joann El-liott's stables where they will learn English rid-ing. Our next food preservation group will be July 14th at 1:00 at the garden club where they will be making native black raspberry pre-serves. At the July 15th scrapbook meeting they will be finishing up their books for fair. Justin Jepson

We wrapped up the year with a nice, productive meeting. We talked about fair, new projects, new leaders... We added finishing touches to this year and got ready for next year! At the end of the meeting, the current leaders passed on their lights of leadership to next year's new leaders. I passed on my light to Lexi Davis, your new Redwood Valley/Calpella club scribe. Good luck, and see you next year! ~Olivia

On Monday June 10th, the Mendocino Spartan 4-H group met for their last time of the 2012-2013 year. Members were invited to bring friends and families that may be interested in becoming a Spartan. Also, Morgan announced the officers and other peo-ple that hold new positions for the next 4-H year. Afterwards, there was an ice-cream party and scrap-book making. Online Record Book Surveys Check it OUT!

The California 4-H Youth Development Program’s (YDP) mission is to “engage youth in reaching their full-est potential while advancing the field of youth develop-ment.” 4-H YDP core values require that programs be evaluated regularly and adjusted as needed to maintain effectiveness. As such, to help make the best better we must evaluate our program to determine if the program is leading to the outcomes we have identified as core to our program (e.g., confidence, competence, contribution to the community, improved academic performance, sci-ence literacy), and if not take active steps to improve the program quality and youth’s experiences. The 4-H Online Record Book is not only an innovative 21st century record keeping system but it also includes surveys to help us understand if 4-H is helping youth reach their fullest potential. When youth take surveys they get “Spark Points” and are eligible to receive other incentives including a gift card, centennial pin, or iPad Mini. Whether or not youth complete a record book they can still enter the system, take the surveys, and network with other youth in their club or group. Login to the 4-H Online Record Book now or encourage youth that you work with to login and help us know if 4-H is making a difference and how we can improve: https://4horb.ucanr.edu/login.cfm. Surveys are open May 1 – August 31st.
