HOW TO USE THE MEMORY VERSE GUIDE

    Purpose

The purpose of the Memory Verse Guide (MVG) is to give you direction andencouragement in the process of committing crucial biblical verses to memory. The MVG provides you with the best memory verses on a variety of biblicaltopics.

There is no more effective way to transform and renew your mind (Rom. 12:1-2) than memorizing and meditating upon Scripture. The discipline andrepetition necessary to memorize a text will plant it deep within yourconsciousness. Memorization places Scripture at your fingertips, always at yourdisposal for use on unexpected occasions.

"Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee" (Ps.119:11). The passages you have memorized will also assist you in times oftemptation. How to Use It

The MVG offers three levels of topically-arranged memory verses. Each levelcontains 52 passages, so that you can learn a level in one year at the rate of onepassage per week.

Level One provides you with foundational verses on ten major areas of theChristian walk:

    Suggestions

    1. This is a systematic arrangement, and it is best to memorize the verses in the

order in which they appear in this guide.

    2. Consider committing yourself to mastering Level One. These are the coreverses you should review and retain, even if you later learn and forget otherverses.

  • 8/8/2019 Memory Verse Guide

    4/42

    3. Set specific and realistic goals. At the rate of one passage per week, it willtake you a year. Some people may want to learn Level One in six months (twopassages per week). Others may take two years (one passage every two weeks).

    4. Review is essential to retention, and it plays an increasingly important role

with every new verse you learn. Be sure to review what you have memorized sothat it will not gradually slip away from you. The more you have learned, themore important a methodical program of review will become.

    5. The verses in the SMG [will soon be] available in three sets of flash cards, oneset for each level. Carry a set of these cards with you and use them during the"dead times" of the day (waiting for an appointment, waiting on line, waiting onhold, waiting in traffic). Since the key to memorization is repetition, exposeyourself to your new verses briefly but often.
