UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NEWS

The United Methodist Women are looking forward to an exciting year. We have three active

circles and are beginning a new younger circle. If you are interested in becoming a member of

the United Methodist Women please contact Ellen Henson 848-3505 or Harriet Strait.

Memorial’s UMW will be hosting the Annual District Meeting of the UMW on September

13th at Memorial. We are looking for around 150 district Methodist women. Our Boy Scouts

will be assisting us with parking and assisting women into the FLC. We will be setting up

tables on Friday September 12 at 3:00. If you could assist with this, please let Ellen Henson

know. Thank you to all who have volunteered to help.

We will be having our annual Fall supper on Tuesday October 21st. Our featured speaker will

be Adam Wickliffe. He will be talking about the Greer Soup Kitchen and the start of a

homeless shelter. Please join us at 6:30 in the social hall. We will be serving soup and

sandwiches homemade by our wonderful women!!

We continue our ministry of prayer shawls. These are handmade shawls that are blessed by the

Tuesday morning prayer group. We have delivered three this summer. If you know of

someone who could use a prayer shawl please let us know.

Thank you to all the great women who assist Harriet and me. We could not do it without all of

you! Ellen.

BIBLE STUDY INFORMATION

ATTENTION! The Bible study on Stewardship and Leadership is being rescheduled due to

the Labor Day weekend and will now begin on Sunday, September 7th at 5:30 p.m. Please plan

on meeting in the Social Hall, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m., for 5

consecutive Sundays.

IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO JOIN!! Disciple I AND II are being offered by Katie Moore.

Disciple I class began on August 20th and offers a choice of morning (9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.)

or evening (5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.) classes. Disciple II class will begin on Sunday, September

7th, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Katie is requesting that interested individuals complete a short

form, indicating your choice of time for Disciple I. You must have successfully completed

Disciple I in order to take Disciple II. Forms are located in the Narthex and in the FLC and can

be placed in the collection plate on Sunday. You may also contact her at 469-3254.

MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Men, women and teens are invited to join Daryl Rishforth and a group from Aldersgate UMC

to assist with the Red Bird Mission in Beverly, Kentucky to help disadvantaged and needy

folks. The date of this mission trip is May 3, 2015 – May 9, 2015. We will probably be

working on homes. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED!

We are excited to participate in saving Campbell Soup labels and box tops for education for

Red Bird Mission. Red Bird uses these labels to purchase much needed vans for hauling

people and supplies to work sites. It takes 1.6 million labels to purchase a minivan (that’s

1,600,000). Some of you are already familiar with this process. We’ll have more news later!

Below is the listing for GMC’s Pack-A-Sack (peanut butter) and the Greer Relief Drive for

canned tuna or soup. Thank you everyone!!!!

NEWS FROM EPWORTH CHILDREN’S HOME

On Sunday, September 14, 2014, our congregation will stand with Epworth to break the cycle

of abuse, neglect and shame through our collection of the Annual Epworth Work Day

Offering. Without the support of churches like ours, Epworth could not provide

transformational care for children in need. We invite you to give generously to the children

who call Epworth home. For more information, please visit Epworth on the web at

www.epworthchildrenshome.org

LIBRARY DAYS BEGIN AGAIN!

We will begin our Sunday library days this month, with our first trip scheduled for September

28th. Typically, we will schedule the third Sunday of each month, but during September, that

day will be when our congregation honors and celebrates our organist, Ann Mayfield, as she

will be retiring from her many years of service to the church. We want all of you to celebrate

with us!
