Memorandum Date: 04APR12To: USMC Discharge Review BoardFrom: Paul R. MurphyRe: Sgt. Stein, USMC
Greetings,
Ive been following the posts in question that have been attributed to Sgt.
Stein, although they have not been specifically identified with him or the USMC that I
can recall, a key element in showing harm to the good order and discipline of the
USMC. Ive followed those posts with great appreciation I might add.
In my opinion, Sgt. Stein, if that be the person making the posts in question, has
embodied the spirit and the intent of the founders visions of free political speech as
secured and protected under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
I know nothing of Sgt. Steins duty performance, but its a travesty of justice in my
opinion, that Sgt. Stein has become a political target for opposing one of the greatest
single political threats this nation has faced since the Civil War, if not since its inception.
In my opinion as a former member of the US Armed Forces, Sgt. Stein has taken
reasonable and acceptable actions to protect the image and order of the USMC, and
also to stand as a voice against the many growing internal political tyrannies we now
face as a nation, not to mention the growing external threats to the United States.
If that is not a duty incumbent on every US Marine upon taking their oath to uphold and
defend the US Constitution, against all enemies, foreign and domestic, then what may I
ask, is?
I would submit to this board that this entire situation is driven for entirely political
reasons and Id ask that this board, politically convened for political reasons as they are,
find Sgt. Stein, a valued citizen and contributor to necessary discourse within these
