The start of this new mission came less than a decade after the successful union on November 26, 1946, of the United Brethren in Christ and the Evangelical Church as the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

The Mission Board purchased a two-acre tract of land on Cherry Hill Drive in 1955, on which the new church would be built. A house at 1113 Skymont Road was purchased by the Board in 1956 to be used as a parsonage for the church.
