Members of the Energy Efficient Foam Coalition are in the business of providing energy-efficient

foam insulation that meets stringent fire safety standards and can help protect building occupants,

construction workers and first responders from fire-related death and injury.

DECREASING FIRE DEATHSExisting fire safety standards have helped to decrease the instance of fire deaths. The number of U.S. fire deaths has declined by more than 60 percent, from 7,395 in 1977 to 2,855 in 2012.1

First responders have a better chance of entering attics and crawl spaces when high- performing foam insulation that meets fire safety standards is used.

Foam roofing that meets firesafety specifications on largebuildings, such as offices, schools and hotels, can provideadditional time for people toevacuate in the event of a fire.

FIRE PERFORMANCE OF FOAM INSULATION

UPHOLDING SAFETY STANDARDSDuring the most recent International Residential Code and International Green Construction Code update cycles, the International Code Council’s voting members rejected code change proposals that would have undermined building fire safety and restricted the use of foam insulation.

Foam insulation that meets fire safety requirements can help prevent or slow fires that result from short circuits or other electrical malfunctions in a home’s or a building’s electrical wiring.
