Brent is committed to growing the company through research and advanced technologies to create safer workplaces across the globe. Over the last 30 years, what significant developmentshave you seen shape the Australian METS Sector?

The industry’s perspective on safety has changed for the better. There has been and continues to be, active steps taken to improve the safety of personnel above and below ground. Australia has set a global standard for awareness and action towards safer work environments.

Critical measures which safeguard against the hazardous environment of a mine were previously seen as luxuries. Overcoming set mentalities wasa complicated process; due to our understanding of the market and our product, the company persisted and continued to invest in the region.

Another influential force in safety is digitalisation. Technology has changed the way the company and our clients engage with not only refuge chambers, but safety equipment across the board. The expansion focuses on pushing the limits of safety standards embracing IoT (Internet of Things) and product development.

What have been the key factors behind your company'sgrowth and success in the industry? The strong promotion of an open and innovative culture has been crucial to MineARC’s development. Reflecting on your company's history, what are your proudest achievements?

MineARC has grown from a family-managed business to a global leader in controlled environments and refuge chamber technology. A key achievement was the establishment of MineARC Systems in the United States as this was a critical driver into MineARC’s global expansion. We now engineer, manufacture, and supply refuge chambers and ancillary mining and industrial equipment to operations in over 60 countries.

Our commitment to the highest safety levels has seen our refuge chambers being used as the ‘blueprint’ for creating refuge legislation and industrial safety standards around the globe. Safety of personnel is our priority, and the company continues to advocate for high safety standards and the supply of quality products for the protection of workers. It takes a lot of strength and determination to build a reputable company and progression has not come without challenges or resistance.

Overall, we are proud of the quality and service we can provide to the industry. Over the years, MineARC has been recognised by our peers. Recently, the company was named overall Western Australian Telstra Business of the Year.

Looking to the future, what issues, trends o r technological developments do you believe are critical to the success of the Australian METS sector?

Besides technology and data, I see transparency and blockchain as key influencers in the market. There is a growing demand for more transparency in how organisations operate and the origin of materials. This is not limited to the METS sector. What the end consumers want, whether a business or individual, is to know they are purchasing from an earnest company. In the mining sector, this not only relates to mineral provenance and traceability in its lead supply chain but can also promote sustainability and safety, globally.
