Welcome to our July Edition. With a new financial year upon us many would be preparing for tax time.In this quarter’s edition, we have included our tips for tax time, which you should find useful, and I would like to share the following with you.

Tax time is here again. Here are our tips to help you make the most out of your tax return.Some basic rules

f You are entitled to claim expenses that are directly related to earning an income

f Private or domestic expenses are not deductible

f If the expense was both work-related and has a private component, you can only claim a deduction for the work-related portion

f Deductions can only be claimed in the same income year that you made the purchase

f Keep all receipts and written records

Work-related expensesIf you are an employee you may be able to claim a tax deduction for some costs related to your job.

This may include:-

f equipment, tools or other assets and the amount that you can claim depends on the amount of time you use them for work purposes

f car, travel, accommodation and incidentals may also be claimed if you travel for work. This depends on your job, your industry and what the costs relate to

f work clothing, footwear and laundry expenses related to the cleaning of work clothing may also be claimed
