SO YOU WANT TO BUILD A STATION? A FREIGHT HOUSE? A COALING TOWER TOO?

The f r e i g h t house and s t a t i o n a r e b a s i c a l l y t h e same excep t f o r t h e windows. The s t a t i o n s f o u r w a l l s a r e made up o f h o r i z o n t a l s i d i n g p a i n t e d a b u f f c o l o r . Cut o u t t h e window and door' openings as p e r drawing then assemble w a l l s u s i n g c o r n e r p o s t d e t a i l , and a l i t t l e g l u e . Add t h e l o w e r s i d e boards and t r i m . These boards a r e t h r e e f e e t h i g h w i t h v e r t i c a l j o i n t s P a i n t t h e boards o l i v e green and have enough t o p a i n t t h e doors and window frames. The t i c k e t window i s a bay t ype c o n s t r u c t i o n , l o c a t e d on t h e t r a c k s i d e o f t h e s t a t i o n .

The f r e i g h t house i s f o u r w a l l s , no windows, b u i l t t h e same as t h e s t a t i o n . I t does have t w o l a r g e doors on e i t h e r s i de , o l i v e green. These can be made f rom sc rap wood as w e l l as t h e smal l t r i m around them. The f r e i g h t house i s on a r a i s e d p l a t f o r m which runs a l l around t h e b u i l d i n g . Check t h e r o o f p l a n s and n o t e t h e f r e i g h t house r o o f i s s m a l l e r than t h e s t a t i o n r o o f .

The c o a l i n g t ower i s made up f rom two m a i l i n g tubes app rox ima te l y f o u r t e e n s c a l e f e e t d iameter and t h i r t y one f e e t h igh, s c a l e o f course. The towers appear t o be c o n c r e t e w i t h metal bands around them. I used a medium s i z e d b l a c k t h r e a d g lued around t h e b u f f p a i n t ed tubes. Ove r l ap t h e t h r e a d a t t h e j o i n t t o g i v e t h e e f f e c t o f t h e s p l i c e d j o i n t o f t h e r e a l meta l bands.

The r o o f o f t h e h o i s t house i s made up as one s e c t i o n a t t h e t o p o f t h e towers . The i nward s i d e o f t h e tower has a l a d d e r runn ing f rom ground up t o t h e h o i s t house There i s one coa l chu te on each tower. The l i f t convey o r l o c a t e d l o c a t e d on t h e t r a c k s i d e o f t h e towers i s a s o l i d p i e c e o f wood w i t h s i d i n g boards on t h e f o u r s i des . There i s a smal l i n s p e c t i o n door a t t h e bo t tom nea r t h e t r a c k . The conveyor runs f rom t h e h o i s t house down i n t o a coa l p i t onder t h e t r a c k s . The conveyor and t h e h o i s t house a r e p a i n t e d a d i r t y grey . The towers shou ld show some d i r t and gr ime t o o w i t h maybe r u s t s t a i n s from t h e meta l ( t h r e a d ) bands.

I n t h e r e a r of t h e tower area, across a d i r t r oad t h e r l was a m a l l coa l y a r d w i t h a s i x f o o t h i g h fence around

,, an area o f twen ty t o twenty f i v e f e e t . A smal l p o r t a b l e ,: conveyor was used t o l o a d c a r t s and t r u c k s . To t h e

s i d e o f t h i s y a r d was a s m a l l o f f i c e t ype b u i l d i n g .

The e n t i r e f a c i l i t y was t h e r e t o s e r v i c e smal l mixed t r a i n s and t h e m i l k runs- - - -a aood reason t o b u i l d i t o n a p i k e o f a n y s i z e . 5:
