Save the Dates!

One of the most effective ideas I had for my

fundraisers was creating and hand

delivering/posting these ‘Save the Dates’

cards. It gave people plenty of notice and

most people made the effort to attend at

least one of the events if they couldn’t

attend both. Ideal for magneting onto

fridges! The quiz and Night at Races raised

around £1500 each.

£2 Tipple

At my quiz night held at the local Golf Club, this helped to

boost my total by £200. £2 to enter a name on one of the 100

squares gave people the chance to win one of the two quality

bottles of wine that were donated to me by my friend who

runs an off-licence.

Each bottle of wine retailed at £100, so it

was a valuable prize with pretty good odds!

Sponsored Race

Getting together with my friends to do a run in

Clonakilty meant a great weekend of fun for us

and way to boost my fundraising. I totalled

around £250 for this event, but a lot of people

made donations to my Just Giving account as a

result of the photos on facebook which was an

added way to promote my cause.

Guess Niall’s Birthday

This simple idea raised around £600 for me! At £2 a guess and

365 potential answers, it was really easy. I circulated it at the

Night At the Races, and a few family friends and visitors made

guesses ahead of the evening. Very low in terms of effort on my

part and a really effective way to raise money...

Book / DVD Sale

Collecting donations from family and friends

gave them a good excuse for a clear-out and

added around £115 to my total. I held a stall

at a village market near my sister’s house.

The organisers of the market were happy to

offer me the space for the stall without

charge and I had plenty of help from my

nephews and niece to help sell my things!

Just Giving!

By using Just Giving as a way to save my

donations, I was able to get extra money for

the charity. Something to do with the

government’s promise to charities. (I won’t

pretend to understand that fully…!)

I won’t deny that there were many hours work put into the events but I really enjoyed the challenge and thanks to my

family and friends I am delighted with the success. I watched a documentary 5 years ago about the work of the Niall

Mellon Trust and I can’t wait to go for the first time this November :)
