    COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY AND COMPUTER SCIENCECOMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

    SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN ISYLLABUS OF INSTRUCTION

    I. COURSE CODE : CS 3217

    II. COURSE TITLE : System Analysis and Design l

    Prerequisite :Data Structure and File Organization ( CS 2210 S1)

    Credits Units : 3units (2 LEC, 1 LAB)Total Hours : 90 HOURS (54 hours LEC, 36 hours LAB)

    III. COURSE DESCRIPTION :The main objective of this course is to provide students with an overall foundation of systems analysis and design to effectively and

    efficiently design and implement system. Topics to be covered include: system development tools, cost benefit analysis, prototyping, alternatesystem design strategies, designing human interface, software development life cycle, rapid application development, systems planning andselection, system analysis, system design, and system implementation and operation. For practical applications, the students will use sometools and apply some of the concepts covered in lectures.

    Introductory project management will be taught and used to control the team project. Team concepts including personal andinterpersonal skills will be discussed and monitored. Empowerment concepts will be used and measured. Scheduling and completing

    individual and group actions will be used to ensure project milestone completion.The course also serves as a venue for students to practice project management during team oriented analysis and design of a

    departmental level system.

    IV. GENERAL OBJECTIVES :This course intends to;

    A. COGNITIVE:

    1. develop necessary concepts to provide the skills necessary to do the analysis, modeling, and definition of information systems problems;2. analyze alternatives involving implementation using packages, tailoring of packages, constructing software, or case tools;3.show students how to plan organizational systems to determine how the systems might be improved;4.examine how to assess risks and feasibility;5.distinguish development of a logical design

    B. AFFECTIVE:1. demonstrate awareness to perform system analysis using commercial program products to implement information systems;2. exemplify customer requirements at all stages of the process;3. influence the students with the importance of teamwork, project management, and oral and written communication skills;4. conceptualize a full design experience on a small project such as designing an e-Commerce system;5. use resources to write required system designs and to require them to note down individual and team reports as well as to give oral

    presentations on their designs.

    C. PSYCHOMOTOR:1. create and construct small group dynamics as related to working with users;2. organize quality criteria for assessment of customer satisfaction at all phases of the life cycle3. create procedure on how to collect and structure information in the development of requirements and specifications;4. design a functional understanding of rapid prototyping and other similar alternative mechanisms for rapid development of informationsystems;5.  build skills for effective interpersonal communication to develop consensus using classical techniques as well as computer facilitatedgroupware
