Hello to all our Guests.

Another season has come and gone. We are looking forward to getting started in a few months for our 11th season. I hope you are all enjoying the warm-er winter conditions. Walleye season opens on May 20th and Musky fishing gets started on June 17th 2017.

It might be safe to assume that we are in for another early spring this year as the ice is thinner than it usually is for this time of winter. So once again we should have a good walleye spawn and by opening day. It might also be safe to say that we are experiencing the third mild winter in a row, which means mother nature has been very easy on the deer population.

I am expecting very good whitetail deer hunting this fall. We still have many hunting dates available but please book your 2017 hunting trip asap. I also did a lot of extra work through the late fall and winter setting up new hunting stands and blinds etc in preparation for the 2017 whitetail deer hunt.

We built 2 new hunting towers with platforms for blinds and setup 3 new permanent blinds as well. I will con-tinue to improve our hunting spots this summer. The fall of 2016 produced some the best hunting we have had yet. Dennis and son Yannick Turcotte took two huge bucks. All three hunters in Dan Guay’s group shot trophy bucks as well. Marina Mogilevsky caught the big-gest walleye of the season, a very fat 30 incher right before she caught an-other 28.5 incher. The months of June, July and August proved to be awesome for walleye in the 28 inch and bigger range. We also spent a lot more time fishing closer to the lodge and less days at Miles Bay and I expect this trend to continue in 2017.

Gas prices still remain low in Canada. The current price for regular gas in Fort Frances is $1.03/Can/per liter (4 liters in a US gallon). Combine the low gas prices with a very high US dollar con-version rate of $1.30 US dollar per Ca-nadian dollar and finally US residents are really getting a bang for their US money in Canada this summer!!

We are now entering into our 11th sea-son and looking at a new start in many different ways, so please be sure to make your reservations as early as pos-sible to ensure I can meet your needs. Look forward to seeing you all again in 2017.

new hunting towers. The anglers in my boat landed 99 muskies in 2016 and I feel we are finally much better set up for hunting in 2017.

The Hoelzel brothers and their group ran their 4th annual musky derby at the end of August. Others join in to compliment the group of excellent hard core musky guys. The guys put in money for the biggest fish and most muskies caught. We also add prizes and a trophy. Steve Hoelzel took the biggest fish in for 2016 with a 49 inch-er and his son Allen landed 14 fish for the most fish and the group had over 20 fish 45 inches or better. The Hoe-lzel group of 12 anglers landed 75 fish during the 6 day event.

The largest musky taken by a guest in 2016 was caught by Rich Sohan while walleye fishing. Sohan’s very fat fish was an amazing 51.5 inches long and was taken on 8lb test on a jig and min-now. The huge musky was landed boat side by hand and was one of the heavi-est fish taken in my boat in many years. Fred Berkshire and Terry Welsh also landed 21 fish on their 2016 trip with the biggest at 48.5 inches. Craig Hill also caught a 49 incher and we had sev-eral fish between 48 and 49 inches.

Habitat for Humanity held their 10th annual Ride Around The Lake cycling charity event on Sept 11th/2016. To date the group had raised almost two million for new housing. We are proud to be a part of this important event.

The fall of 2016 was late in coming but we had a great whitetail season anyway, except for the first week which was very warm. The father son of Dennis and Yannick Turcotte had a big year. All three hunters in the Dan Guay group also shot big bucks last fall.

The Hoelzel group is made up of 14 musky fishermen who come up at the end of August each year to compete for the trophy, a little money and bragging rights. In 2016 the group landed 75 muskies, the biggest fish was a 50 incher caught by Steve Hoelzel. There were many fish over 45 inches. Biggest fish was caught by Steve Hoelzel at 49 inches and his son Alan had the most muskies with 14 fish over the six days.

Gary Smith returned for two days of walleye fishing in 2016 with his son Marc. On two consecutive days Gary started the day off with a trophy sized walleye on the first fish of the day as seen above. Nice fishing Gary!!
