I invite you to the inaugural CHA Health Matters Symposium combining the long running CHA Nursing and Midwifery Symposium with a new symposium focused on Learning and Development.

Each year, CHA’s annual Nursing & Midwifery Symposium brings together the nurses and midwives, the lifeblood of our hospitals and aged care services, spanning the length and breadth of this nation. It presents a unique opportunity to connect with peers and colleagues, learn together about new initiatives in health, develop and build upon core leadership skills, and celebrate the valuable contributions made by Catholic sector nurses and midwives around Australia.

This year, CHA has expanded the program to feature an entire day devoted to Learning & Development showcasing the innovative thinking and ideas that are taking place within this space. Both days are packed with valuable content, delivered by industry experts including Associate Professor Dr Judy Duchscher, an international expert on nursing graduate education and transition into the work environment, resilience expert Hugh Van Cuylenburg and Margaret Banks, the program Director of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality.

With thanks to our partner Australian Healthcare and Hospital Association (AHHA) and sponsors HESTA, Mindtools, Bankfirst, Australian Catholic University, Lippincott, Laerdal, Personify Care and University of Tasmania for supporting this event for our nurses, midwives, allied health and learning and development professionals.

I look forward to seeing you in Melbourne!

– Suzanne Greenwood CEO

KeynoteHUGH VAN CUYLENBURG

Founding Director/Facilitator of The Resilience Project

Hugh has been working in education for over 13 years, teaching both primary and secondary in a range of educational settings. The highlight of his teaching career was the year he spent in the far north of India volunteering and living at an underprivileged school in the Himalayas. It was here that he discovered resilience in its purest form.

Inspired by this experience Hugh returned to Melbourne and commenced working on his own program for schools. ‘The Resilience Project’ was born. Having completed his post graduate studies, looking at resilience and wellbeing, Hugh has developed and facilitated programs for over 500 schools Australia wide. In 2015, the National Rugby League asked Hugh to run workshops at every single

club in the competition. Since then, he has worked with the Australian Cricket Team, the Australian Netball Team, the Australian Women’s Soccer Team, The Jillaroos and 8 AFL teams. Beyond the team environment, Hugh has been lucky enough to work one on one with individuals such as Steve Smith, Dustin Martin and Billy Slater.

Outside of schools and sport, Hugh has presented to over 200 corporate groups as a keynote speaker, where he teaches the same principles as he does when he is working with the prep kids in schools across the country.

His favourite past time is spending time with his partner Penny and their one year old son, Benji.
