Even though it’s summertime and the livin’ is easy, Rotarians are as busy as ever. In addition to our annual picnic, we’ve got some exciting things planned for this month:

NEW EXCHANGE STUDENT: Our new exchange student, Dondu Tuzin, arrives this month. I know we’re all looking forward to getting to know her.

SERVICE PROJECT: This month we’re doing one of our favorite service projects, the School Supplies donation for Stephens Elementary School. Rotarians are asked to donate school sup-plies for needy kids who otherwise would not have the basic tools they need. Watch the bulletin for a list of what the school needs this year and we’ll be collecting at our regular meetings. If you don’t have time to shop, you can make a cash donation, and we’ll use that to purchase whatever else is needed.

EXTRA SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: August is Membership and Extension Month, and we are fortunate to have Mary Berge, RI Zone 29 Coordinator as our special guest speaker today. Mary is a dynamic motivational speaker whom you will thoroughly enjoy. Don’t miss her pre-sentation.

MEMBERSHIP SURVEY: We’re asking all of you to take the Membership Survey again so we can compare your answer to last year’s survey. We made some changes in response to information we got from you last year, and we want to be sure we’re going in the right direction. Please take a few moments to make your opinions known. I will be emailing the survey to members with email accounts and we’ll have paper copies available as well. You can:1. Print the emailed survey, fill it out by hand and bring it to the meeting 2. Fill out the emailed survey on your computer and either print it and bring it to the meeting or save it and email it back to me. 3. Pick up a blank survey at the meeting and fill it out by hand.

As always, please share any ideas or concerns with me. Looking forward to a fabulous year!

INVITE A PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS PERSON

TO BECOME A ROTARIAN

EVERY Rotarian is responsible for seeking qualified men and women to be potential members of our Rotary Club. Have you

invited anyone recently? Well, what the heck are you

waiting for??

SONIA PATTERSON AND HER

FIVE TALENTSSonia Harter Patterson, daughter of Rotar-ian Bill Harter, spoke to us at our last meet-ing about her organization, Five Talents, for which she serves as Executive Director. The mission of the faith based international de-velopment organization is to fight poverty, create jobs, and transform lives by empow-ering the poor in developing countries.

The organization’s name is taken from the Biblical parable found at Matthew 25:14-30 that tells of a master who entrusts his prop-erty to three servants while he is away. Two of the servants have wisely managed the “talents” by doubling their value, while the third servant has merely hidden his talent in a hole in the ground. The master rewards the first two servants, but punishes the third by taking away his talent and banishing him from the household.

The goal of Five Talents is to follow the ex-ample of the faithful servants by teaching its program participants to wisely nurture what they are given in order to reap a sustainable harvest in their business endeavors.

It’s a Girl!!Dondu Tuzin arrived on Saturday, August 10th. Dondu (pronounced dun do) is our exchange stu-dent for this year. She comes to us from Switzerland however she also has a Kurdish background because her parents are originally from Turkey. She turned 17 on July 31. Keep in mind that she loves history! And she says she loves ALL kinds of history. We are so blessed with so much his-tory within our region that I am sure that we can give her many good experiences. She also likes to write and enjoys music, in fact she plays the guitar. Currently she is staying with Anthony and Tracy Bruno and Olivia Evans (Brad Evans daughter). Olivia was able to go to the airport to greet Dondu on Saturday (also shown in picture). Dondu is registered for school and will be attending orientation this Thursday. She will be attending our meeting on August 29th so that everyone can give her a proper welcome. When making your plans this year, plan ahead for events where you will be able to have Dondu participate as we want to give her a well rounded experience!Wendy Cowan
