2010 Dog Summary

In 2010 NH&R received 18 dogs that were relinquished by their owners or obtained from shelters plus the 9 puppies born to a relinquished female while in rescue. Treat-ments included the basic vet check, vacci-nations, and spay / neuter (if required). Also several dogs required additional treat-ment or surgeries, such as cruciate repairs, entropian surgery, and Mange treatment.

NewfMart is Back!

NH&R's Web Store, NewfMart, is revised, updated, and available. Feel free to browse and buy – newfhealthandrescue.org and click on NewfMart in the upper right.

Raffle is Coming

The NH&R annual raffle will be held at the picnic in June. Please think about us as you do your spring cleaning or purchasing and donate some wonderful items!! If you have items to donate, you may contact Ha-zel Jacoby at 510-582-9027, [email protected], or June Gibson at 714-292-8461, [email protected]. This is a

major fund raiser for rescue and we appre-ciate your assistance – both by helping us have terrific things to raffle and by pur-chasing tickets at the picnic.

Call for Volunteers Preparations are currently underway for this year’s NCNC Regional Specialty. As always there are many jobs to fill to make this a successful show. Many of our club members consistently volunteer year after year and many are “burned out”. We would really love to see some new faces getting involved to help support the club.

Any member can help. “Pet People”, “Show People”, or “Working Dog People”. Many of the volunteer jobs require little to no experience at all. We have plenty of

past volunteers who would be happy to mentor new people. Some of the positions require more than one person, as it might be an all day job where people can take turns for a few hours each. The club pays for or reimburses for any items needing to be purchased.

If you would like to volunteer or if you think you might be interested in a position, but aren’t too sure of the duties, please contact Pam- [email protected] or Gina- [email protected]

Humor Through a Dog’s Eyes “Mud, mud, glorious mud. Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood” so says the old Flanders & Swann's Hippopotamus Song and I agree.

We are gathered here today brethren to sanctify Dog’s slimey creation. Mmmmm, muddddd! Sure it feels and smells great, but its real value lies in the apoplectic fit it seems to cause humans! A mild-mannered

housewife soon turns into a Desperate Housewife with a little planning.

There’s a lake near me that pretty well dries out in the summer and I say pretty advisedly for it is a thing of beauty. The stench of rotten vegetation turns doggy heads and no amount of hollering stops us from answering its siren call. We frolic, we loll, we try to bound but we fall, it

thrills, it amuses, it’s the next best thing to procreation. Then we make our way home and that’s where the real fun starts.

Toddy’s Top Tip: Don’t work hard, work smart – once you’ve got a healthy coat of mud you can spread the joy by jumping on other dogs (the paler the better) so they can wreak havoc for you.

NCNC Board of Directors Meeting 1/23/2011 Called to order at 10:30 AM, Present-Pam Rubio, Kevin Gallagher, Debbie Bridge, Hazel Jacoby, Joyce Taylor, John Bonnell, Lynne Baker, Michael Reyer (Parliamentarian), absent Summer Poris.

Treasurer: Hazel Jacoby presented infor-mation about the 2010 Regional, apparently the superintendent sent out 123 Premium Lists not 270. They don’t feel they have done anything wrong. We have an invoice for the ribbons.

There was a discussion concerning their violation of our contract, there were sug-gestions to file a complaint however AKC is not interested in these issues. The club will notify Dog Show Secretary that we will no longer use them for our Regional due to their poor service. Pam R and Gina Bonnell will look for a different superinten-dent. They will make a recommendation to the board whom they think will best meet our needs. The club made money on the Regional, and there is still money coming in. It was felt due to the potential cost in-volved to pursue Dog Show Secretary that it wasn’t worth the minimal amount due. The Board felt we should take our losses and move on.

A summary of WD - $3000 income/$2200 out -draft / $6200 income/$4000 out -water / $10,000 income/$6700 total.

A letter will go out seeking interest in a cart building seminar. The budget was met for 2010, we are in the black. See website for account balances and reports.

Pam donated for an ad at the National draft test.

Kevin mentioned that members need to submit costs even if they donate food, ads, etc.

Pam made a personal donation for the club to Barbara and Roger Frey to help purchase meals during her illness. JT/DB MSP made a motion to reimburse Pam her $100. This reimbursement will come from Sunshine Committee. Kevin and John made a motion to increase Sunshine Committee’s budget. $100 will be moved from Admin to Sun-shine. KG/DB MSP

Pam (Summer) received a letter from Bari Halprin concerning a donation she had

made to the club. Donations to NH&R, a 501c3 NON Profit can accept donations and a tax receipt may be given. NCNC, a 501c4, which is a NOT for Profit Social Club can not give tax receipts, only thank you letters.

Debbie remarked Hazel is doing super job as treasurer.

Hazel informed the board she will be changing banks as Chase will soon be charging a $15./month fee. This account is linked to the debit card. The board feels a minimum amount of money should be in this account.

Move to accept treasurers report KG./LB MSP

Corresponding Secretary: No report

Recording Secretary: No Report

NewfsPaper: No Report

Education: Golden Gate dog show is next weekend, volunteers are welcome to come out and talk with the public.

Membership: 68 members have sent in their renewals so far. Due date is Feb.15, 2011.

Rescue: A 7 mo. Landseer bitch will have entropion surgery next week. Buddy, 7 year old male has an aloof temperament. He will possibly need an ACL repair this week. He was surrendered due to owner illness. Res-cue has yet to receive a refund from the National for their booth. There is a fee for the tent, but no charge for the space.

Working Dog: Had their meeting yester-day. The club will have a two day draft test in the fall at Lagoon Valley. Linda Maggy is in need of stewards for the April draft test. Please contact her. Gina offered to do judges and participants gifts if no other volunteers.

2011 Regional: Pam and Gina are looking for a Superintendent. Kevin suggested con-tacting Donavon about other specialties being held at the same time. There was discussion about a photographer. Joyce suggested Pam Saunders. She will be con-tacted.

Annual Picnic: Summer was unable to get the site we normally use, however this site is at the opposite end of the parking lot. Kevin would like to know if the barbecues are the same. We need a PICNIC CHAIR!!

Webmaster: Michael Gross has shown an interest. His concern is time commitment. He will be contacting Liz and Tom.

Ways/Means: Patty and Buzz Sondgroth will assume the chair if they are voted in as general members today.

New Business: Awards Banquet- Gina said the venue has changed due to the chosen restaurant being closed down for two weeks for plumbing repair. She has found a similar restaurant in Livermore, Casa Orozco . They have an open menu, a room that will hold 50 and the cost is compara-ble. The restaurant requires a credit card to hold the room. MSP HJ/DB

Awards need to be sent to Debbie Bridge by 2/4/11.

Working Dog: Dana Kuo has accepted the chair position KG/JB MSP, nomination confirmed.

Hazel asked about the resolution to clarify the relationship between NCNC and NH&R. This will be discussed later.

John: The Club has 80 general members and 89 NCA members. John informed the board every new member is told how to become a general member. Pam would like to encourage General Members who are active to become NCA members to in-crease our presence within NCA. Several ideas were discussed on ways to get the information out on how to become an NCA member.

Joyce: brought up the NCA basket for the National. She questioned who will put it together and how will it be transported.
