prone area I am used to

this drill. If you are not, I

suggest you familiarize

yourself with a good plan.

www.ready.gov is a good

Take good care,

Mary Clare

Dear Members,

My heart is breaking for

Houston and surrounding

areas right now. I grew up

in Houston and I have

many friends and family left

there. I even have a friend

who posted on Facebook

that she and her animals

left their house in their

kayak—so sad.

We can get pretty bad

weather here in the north

Austin area as well. I re-

member the day I moved

into our first place in Ce-

dar Park, the civil defense

siren went off. We had not

even begun to unpack and

we were already sitting

inside the closet.

The purpose of this story

is to always make sure you

have a plan and the items

necessary to be safe. Fill

the bathtub with fresh wa-

ter in case the water sys-

tem gets compromised.

Have a radio, extra batter-

ies, food, an ice chest, your

medications, etc…

Bruce Cameron, A Dog's Purpose, from director Lasse Hall-ström (The Cider House Rules, Dear John, The Hun-dred-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love.

Senior Circle Travel

before boarding the

ship!

The cruise allowed the

group to visit several

ports and get up close

to 2 different glaciers for

viewing. Because it

was early in the season

there was little ice in the

water from calving so

the ship was able to get

within a half mile from

the glaciers. This al-

lowed great views of a

few thunderous ‘cracks’

as ice calved and plum-

meted into the fjord or

bay.

In each port seniors

went their own way en-

joying activities of vary-

ing difficulty. Some en-

joyed leisurely strolls

through the port cities,

while other enjoyed city

tours and the more ad-

venturous ventured out

on ATV’s, plummeted

down a mile long zip

line from mountain top

to the ship’s dock or a

myriad of other activi-

ties; there was some-

thing for everyone to

enjoy.

Should you hear Alaska

calling, rest assured

that the trip will meet or

exceed your expecta-

tions. Alaska is known

as the Last Frontier for

a reason, but it can be

enjoyed by all – the ad-

venturous and the not

so adventurous alike.

Alaska! The name con-

jures up images of glac-

iers, mountains and

wildlife. On June 12

twenty-six members of

the Senior Circle, and

friends, set sail on an

adventure allowing

them to see Alaska at

its’ finest.

They set sail from Sew-

ard after a breathtaking

ride on the Alaska Rail-

road from Anchorage

with views of glaciers,

canyons, rivers and

more, followed by a har-

bor cruise with up close

viewings of Humpback

whales feeding in Res-

urrection Bay, Harbor

seals, puffins and

mountain goats. All this

Want to find out about more

travel opportunities?

on the first Thursdays of the

Adult Coloring

I know, you haven’t colored since you were a kid, but more and more adults are doing it

and surprisingly, really like it. It is a new way to relax and be creative and there is no

right or wrong way to do it. Get out the colored pencils and try it out!
