Dubai SeminarVickers were delighted to be invited to present a seminar in Dubai recently.

Liz Hornby, Technical Service Manager, and John Flower, Area Sales Manager, gave a technical presentation on “The importance of Bio Lubes in the Marine Environment”. The seminar, arranged by the local branch of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (IMarEST), was extremely well attended and a lengthy question and answer session followed the presentation.

Navalimpianti Group is a leading player in the design and manufacturing of Marine Equipment for passenger and merchant ships, Navy, offshore and mega-yachts. Following extensive trials and testing Navalimpianti has exclusively approved the ECOSURE HSE range of biodegradable hydraulic oils for their Green Hydraulic Systems.

Equipment for which the ECOSURE HSE products are recommended include:

Navalimpianti, will formally launch their Green Hydraulic Systems Programme at SMM. They will be located in Hall B2: STAND EG 301.

Gianfranco Lucignani, Technical Director of Navalimpianti, is excited at the prospect of supplying Navalimpianti’s customers with an environmentally friendly hydraulic systems. “Hydraulics, have been a leading technology for all demanding marine applications for many years, but the use of hydraulic mineral oils was our great concern for the environmental impact in case of spills. Thus we have pursued with Vickers Oils, during the last 5 years, a full spectrum of research and evaluation of

Interest in the HYDROX BIO and ECOSURE products is growing rapidly in the Super Yacht and Mega Yacht sectors. These magnifi cent vessels are to be found in the some of the world’s most ecologically sensitive waters and their operators are acutely aware of their environmental responsibility.

Hamburg Goal goes GreenAt her dry docking in China recently the Hamburg Goal, a Liberian fl agged bulk carrier managed by TMS Ship Management on behalf of owners Hamburg Bulk Carriers, introduced HYDROX BIO 68 for the sterntube and ECOSURE HSE 32 for the hydraulic hatch covers.

Ian Thompson, of TMS said, “We were keen to work with Vickers because we see the need to optimise the environmental performance of our vessels. Whilst leaks from the sterntube and from hydraulic systems should not happen the fact is that they do. By using genuinely Biodegradable, Non Toxic lubricants from Vickers we knew we could minimise the environmental impact of any such leaks. At the same time we knew we were in safe hands since Vickers have been successfully supplying these products for a long time and have a good track record in this fi eld.”

In issue 10 of Solutions, we featured FPV Jura, a new offshore vessel operated by the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency on behalf of The Scottish Ministers. Now, another new vessel FPV Hirta, has been delivered from the Remontowa Shipyard in Gdansk. FPV Hirta is an addition to the fl eet of vessels that play an important role in safeguarding fi sh stocks. She is now on routine fi sheries patrol in the waters around Scotland.

Pollution of fi shing waters is of great concern to the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency and, therefore, the environmentally friendly HYDROX BIO 68, for the sterntube of FPV Hirta, was a natural choice.

Hirta is the main island in the St. Kilda archipelago.

As well as “conventional” propulsion and stabilisation machinery many of these vessels have bespoke hydraulic equipment designed specifi cally for the provision of leisure activities. This produces a natural fi t for the HYDROX BIO and ECOSURE lubricants which offer a winning combination of the highest ecological credentials and operational performance.

materials compatibility in order to fi nd for our customers, a ‘real and practical’ solution to

this problem. Defi nitely the work performed with Vickers Oils and their products now permit us to say that we can offer 100% environmentally friendly hydraulic equipment without any impairment of performance from the smallest equipment, such as Valves Remote Control Systems, to the most demanding, such as Cargo Access Equipment

and offshore applications.”

Vickers Oils this year celebrates its 180th birthday. With continuous supply of marine lubricants since the 1890s, Vickers is probably the longest established specialist marine lubricants company in the world. Vickers Oils, a truly independent company, is now led by the fi fth generation of the family; and, this summer, the sixth generation gained work experience in the company. We are proud of our past and have confi dence in the future.

HYDROX BIO 68 for Quantum yacht stabilizers

Recently Fort Lauderdale based Quantum have tested and approved HYDROX BIO 68 for the hydraulic retraction mechanism of their XT™ stabilizer fi ns.

These extend for greater stabilizing power at anchor, and retract for reduced drag underway. The XT™ fi ns provide the right size fi n, remaining inside the hull envelope for underway stabilisation while providing the fi n area required for effective stabilisation at anchor.

New stock in IstanbulIn order to service the growing demand for supplies of our marine lubricants in Turkey Vickers have established a stock point in Istanbul. This will be managed by:
