MEET OUR NEW VESTRY CANDIDATES

Stephanie Amadio

Since 2012, my family has been blessed to be members of the parish at Saint Alban's Episcopal Church.  I live in Davidson with my husband Bill, son Michael (19) and daughter Amelia (11).  I graduated from the University of Tennessee and worked in the field of engineering, sales and marketing.  I currently work part-time managing the finances for a small family-owned business.

My spiritual roots began with my maternal grandfather, a Southern Baptist minister, who preached and modeled a loving, inclusive heart. Based on this childhood foundation, finding a home at Saint Alban's was natural.   I have discovered a deeper faith and meaningful friendships while at St. Alban's, volunteering with the Ministry of Fun and working with the congregation at large.  The most meaningful gift St. Alban's gives me is being able to witness my daughter's faith grow via the children's choir, acolyting and now, the youth program.  This gift is what most inspires me to serve my church and hopefully contribute to further growing our offerings for families and youth.

Alf Badgett

My wife Denise and I have been members of St. Albans for just three years. We have been married for 34 years. I am a cradle Episcopalian. I grew up in St. Paul’s in Winston-Salem. I am a graduate of NC State with a BSCE and MCE in Civil Engineering. I am a Senior Project Manager with SNC-Lavalin-Atkins, a consulting engineering firm.

We have two daughters. Our oldest, Samantha, is a recent graduate of UNCW and has applied to Veterinary School. Our youngest, Emily, is a junior at Sewanee who is also in the discernment process for divinity school.

I have recently taken on the duty of the Lay Eucharistic Ministers. I have previously served on the Vestry twice and served twice as senior warden. I have served on the Building, Finance, Stewardship, Worship, Outreach, Christian Education and Pastoral Care committees/ministries. I have been delegate to the Diocesan Convention.

I have a passion for outreach and have made two mission trips to Haiti as part of our former church’s mission team. I love being a Habitat for Humanity volunteer and former board member in Florida. It is a great pleasure to teach and watch future homeowners how to build their homes.

I look forward to working our wonderful new clergy.

Joanna Clausen

Hello all!  I am Joanna Clausen.  My husband Ed and I have been married for 19 years and have 3 wonderful boys, Fletcher, 14, Walt, 6 , and Henry, 2. We’ve lived in Huntesville for 18 years.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Masters of Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  I worked for the Charlotte Library system for many years before leaving to stay home with my oldest son. Almost six years ago I created my own household organization business, NEST Organizing.  I love my job and feel lucky every day to be able to help people while being fulfilled by my career and have the flexibility to care for my family .

I grew up in the Baptist church and Ed was Presbyterian in his youth. We tried several types of churches before landing at St. Alban’s.  It is our church home! What we love most about the church and our church family is the openness and accepting nature of the Episcopal faith and of St. Alban’s in particular. I truly love seeing my children feel so at home in this place and knowing they belong here. We have been attending St. Albans for several years: I taught preschool here for 2 years, 10 years ago.  All of my boys, as well as myself have been baptized here. Ed and I were confirmed with the most recent confirmation class. Fletcher is currently an Acolyte and I was recently asked by Deacon Rebecca to help with the Acolytes, assisting Dave Pylipow, which I happily accepted. I love to see my children grow in their faith and can’t wait to see where The Lord and this church leads them, myself, and Ed. God’s peace, Joanna

Kelly Ross

Just the Facts:Retired finance manager, empty nester, and fortunate to be married to Pam for 30 years. Member of St Alban’s since 2003, and Treasurer from 2004-2009. Raised in the Roman Catholic tradition in Minnesota and received into the Episcopal Church by Bishop Curry (when he was ‘just’ a diocesan bishop). Presently serve on the Town of Davidson Planning Board and as a volunteer math tutor with Heart Math.

Why join the Vestry? Why wouldn’t someone want to join the vestry now? This is an exciting time of transition for St. Alban’s. As our community continues the journey of our collective faith, what elements of our community do we savor and enrich? What new challenges, both within our parish and the larger community, are we called to actively respond as Christians?

For me, St Alban’s has always been a community that values and respects our individual faith journeys; each of our stories are unique and valuable, and we engage with this parish with warmth and respect for each other. Building a common faith community while respecting each other’s unique, personal faith journey is the realm of the Holy Spirit. For me, as this parish community moves forward responsively to new challenges, I will strive to respect and savor the mosaic of each of our individual stories and faith journeys.

ANNUAL REPORT FROM THE RECTORThe Rev. Carmen Germino

November 11, 2018

As I sit down to write my first annual report for St. Alban’s, it has now been about four months since the day Cate Buckner called me to extend the invitation to be your rector. And it has been a little over two months since my first Sunday worshiping with you. Today, I am still experiencing the same feelings I had when I received that phone call and when I met you all for the first time: giddy and grateful.

Yes, I’m giddy. I was positively giddy when Cate first called me, and I’m giddy now because I see the Holy Spirit at work in this community, and I see so much potential here. I see a people grounded in the love of Christ and passionate about reaching out to serve others as Jesus taught us to do. Nothing excites me more than seeing the Church live out their faith through prayer, study, and service.

My task for the first couple of months at St. Alban’s has largely been one of learning, observing, absorbing, and beginning to build relationships here in the church and in the wider community of Davidson/surrounding areas, and that task will be ongoing. My biggest goal for my first year here is to get to know the people, because the Church is the people. It will take me a while to really get to know everyone, but I am committed to doing so. Please feel free to reach out to me about anything! Let’s find a time to sit down and talk together. I am always up for coffee or lunch, or just a chat in my office sometime. And please, please, please keep wearing your nametags, even if you are pretty sure most people know you. Every single Sunday, we are seeing visitors and newcomers come through our doors, and wearing your nametag is a gracious act of hospitality for them, as well as for your new clergy.

I’m excited for the possibilities ahead. I’m excited for the growing we will do together. We will keep growing spiritually as we go deeper in exploring our relationship with God and continue to enhance our Christian Education offerings for children, youth, and adults. We will keep growing in numbers as we welcome more people to St. Alban’s. And someday in the not too distant future, I believe we will also grow in size as we dream and plan for an expansion of our physical plant in order to add a parish hall with a full kitchen. I believe such an expansion will be a catalyst for more robust fellowship and outreach opportunities. Imagining all the possibilities of what we will accomplish together with God’s help absolutely keeps me feeling downright giddy!

And I’m grateful for so many reasons! First of all, I am grateful to God every day for the gift and the challenge of this call to ministry with you. I am also profoundly grateful to the vestry for their faith in God, their support of me, and their capable leadership throughout a long season of transition. I want to say a special word of thanks to our outgoing vestry members: Senior Warden Cate Buckner, Junior Warden James Wally, and former Junior Wardens Richard Colven and Mike Stenhouse. Each of these individuals deserves multiple paragraphs to list all they have accomplished in their tenure, but I will simply say that these four, and indeed our entire vestry, are such a blessing to St. Alban’s. They have led this church faithfully, gracefully, and efficiently. Not only did this team juggle multiple search processes and the parking lot paving project, but also the day-to-day realities of parish life.

I’m also incredibly grateful to the parish staff for their patience, persistence, and passion for their work. Each of them deserves their own paragraph as well, but suffice it to say that they are truly the Dream Team. Each of them approaches their work as a ministry, and they are all generous, collaborative, and so talented. Please be sure to thank them whenever you see them, because they all work so hard! Jessica Ewell, Erin Garrett, and Lisa Givens each continue to excel in their roles, and in October, John Bailey came aboard as our wonderful new Organist/Choirmaster and we are very blessed indeed. Patti Rossini and Pat Shaw are each doing phenomenal work at our affiliated preschools, as are their teacher staffs. And Kevin! What a joy and privilege it is to serve alongside a priest of such wisdom and faith. I truly cannot imagine a better colleague in ministry. And while we have said farewell to our beloved Deacon, Rebecca Yarbrough, her legacy will absolutely remain with us in this

Page 5: MEET OUR NEW VESTRY CANDIDATES - … Report 111118.docx  · Web viewStephanie Amadio. Since 2012, my family has been blessed to be members of the parish at Saint Alban's Episcopal

next chapter of our story. I am grateful I got to at least have the benefit of two months to work with her and experience her passion for sharing the Gospel, “not only with our lips, but in our lives” to quote the prayer book.

This is a good opportunity to address a common question I’ve been hearing, “Are we getting another Deacon?” The answer is that we don’t yet know. Deacons are assigned by and report directly to the Bishops, so I will certainly let our Bishops know that St. Alban’s would love a new Deacon. However, Rebecca was also functioning as our paid Director of Community Engagement. The reality is that any new Deacon will be non-stipendiary as are most Deacons, and will therefore need to put in a lot fewer hours than Rebecca did. We are not planning to replace that staff position at this time, but that does not mean we will allow our Outreach and Mission efforts to wane. On the contrary, this is an opportunity for all of us to recommit to our engagement in the community and discern together as a church how God is calling us to be disciples of Jesus in the world around us. Thank you to our Outreach Team and all who are already active in our many Outreach ministries, and if you have been thinking of getting involved, now is a great time to do so!

As we continue to strengthen our Outreach ministries, I also want to offer a word of gratitude to all involved in those ministries that often happen quietly and don’t get much attention, but are absolutely integral to our common life together: our Choir, our Sunday School teachers, the Altar Guild, Flower Guild, Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors, our Acolytes, Lectors, Ushers, Pastoral Care and Bereavement Teams, the Buildings and Grounds Committee, Finance Committee, Memorial Committee, Newcomers Committee, our Ministry of Fun, and more. Please know that your good work does not go unnoticed and is deeply appreciated. You all are amazing!

I am also grateful for the generosity you have already shown in our Annual Giving season for 2019 Stewardship. You have chosen to invest in this community, and in doing so, you are choosing love. You are choosing compassion. You are choosing community. You are choosing the Body of Christ. Thank you for not just supporting the Church, but for being the Church. Our theme this year comes from the Gospel of John, Chapter 15, verse 5, when Jesus says “I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit.” We are bearing fruit here at St. Alban’s...I’ve already seen it, and I know more is to come.

As I look forward to the next year at St. Alban’s, there will be joys and there will be challenges. There will inevitably be some changes ahead. As we consider how St. Alban’s is bearing fruit, we also need to consider what might need to be pruned back for the sake of allowing new growth to emerge. We’re going to listen for the Spirit’s guidance and we’re going to try some new things together. As your Rector, I will do my very best to help shepherd this Church into its future, and there will be times when I get it right, and there will be times when I make mistakes. Ultimately, it will be up to all of us to love one another, trust one another, give each other grace, and work together for the building of God’s Kingdom. I am so grateful for the opportunity to do this work alongside you!

Finally, I want to close by offering my gratitude for the warmth and welcome you have shown to me and my family as we have begun this new adventure. I know it can be hard to go through so much change. I know it can be hard to get used to a new rector’s style. I know it can be hard to let go of past relationships, past hurts, or past hopes. But you have truly made me feel at home here already. From my very first day, when I walked in and saw the banner hanging in the narthex that said “Welcome Home, Rev. Carmen!” I have felt as though I am home. Thank you for your love, your prayers, and your commitment to this church. God bless you.

Yours in Christ,Carmen+

ANNUAL REPORT TO SAINT ALBAN’SRev. Kevin Lloyd

Associate Rector / Davidson College Episcopal Campus MinisterNovember 11, 2018

I am so deeply grateful to have been called to serve this wonderful parish community at Saint Alban’s and the students at Davidson College. You have welcomed me, Julia, and the boys with such warmth and Christian hospitality. Thank you! Admittedly there was a little anxiety about accepting a call as Associate Rector without knowing who the new Rector would be. Now that I have had the joy and privilege of working with and getting to know Carmen, I feel all the more grateful to have been led here. I have little doubt that the Spirit has been at work in bringing us all together. I want to thank the members of the Vestry and all of you who supported the process of discernment that brought me here.

My first few months here have certainly been a whirlwind. I have been working to strike a good and healthy balance in my dual role as Associate Rector and Campus Minister. The support I have received from all of you at Saint Alban’s has been so instrumental in helping me do this. I am particularly grateful to Sandra Johnson, who is a tremendous support in our ministry to the Davidson students, coordinating the home-cooked meals that we serve to the students after each Sunday evening Eucharist. Thanks also to those who volunteer to provide those meals. Not only are you providing good, home-cooked food to the students, which they love, but you are also helping us build community within the context of a common meal.

In addition to simply getting to know each other, the Canterbury student-members and I have been working on plans for a Spring Break mission trip. This every-other-year trip provides Canterbury students an opportunity to put their faith into action by providing hands-on support to those in need. In recent years, the group has gone to Costa Rica and worked on various projects in partnership with our companion diocese there. This year, in my conversations with the students about the mission trip, the question was raised as to whether we should seek to provide support to those in our own neck-of-the-woods who are recovering from Hurricanes. For various reasons, we as a group discerned that we should do this. In this process of discernment I have been very impressed with their openness, intentionality, and willingness to respond faithfully to current needs, wherever that may be.

In my role as Associate Rector, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this wonderful parish community. My primary focus has been on getting to know all of you as quickly as possible and finding ways to support and encourage the life-giving and far-reaching ministry that happens here. One of the important ways I will do that, of course, is by supporting Lisa Givens and others in the ministry to and with our youth. One of my early efforts on this front will be planning and providing a Confirmation Class beginning in January for those in 8 th

grade and older who would like to participate. The bishop will be here on March 24 th. Stay tuned for details and please be in touch with any questions you may have.As I continue to “find my footing” here, I want to again thank everyone for your warm hospitality, your support, and your patience. Please don’t hesitate to speak with me about any of the above, or anything else for that matter. I am truly grateful to be here and look forward to all that lies ahead, as we continue to love and serve God and God’s people in this place.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH ANNUAL REPORTLisa Givens, Youth Minister

I am starting my sixth year as Director of Children and Youth and I am looking forward to a fantastic year. Our children and youth program at St. Alban’s is flourishing! Planning Intergenerational Advent Wreath Fair for anyone in the church. Youth are volunteering during the event.

We accomplished a very successful VBS this summer for the community and our La Escuelita families.

Christmas pageant planning is underway and will be held during the Dec. 23rd at the 10:30 service.

Summer Sunday school continues to be a hit each week in the summer. We have a different volunteer that runs it each week and we have an average of about 10 kids each Sunday.

MUSIC ANNUAL REPORTJohn Bailey, Organist & Choirmaster

I began serving as the Organist & Choirmaster at St. Alban’s on 10/1/18 and have been very busy trying to get music planned for the remainder of the year as well as getting the music room cleaned and organized. Staff transitions can be difficult for music ministries but the choir has been very patient and kind to me. I look forward to serving with them.

Currently

12 members in the Adult Choir singing in the 10:30 service. Children’s Choir will begin rehearsals on Wed(11/7/18). We are planning for them to sing on 12/23 in

the 10:30 service, Christmas Eve and, hopefully, on 1/6/19 in the 10:30 service for Epiphany. In the process of learning what is familiar to the choir and congregation from The Hymnal 1982 and the

supplemental hymn resource(Wonder, Love and Praise). The choir and I will continue to learn new hymns to introduce to the congregation.

Awaiting a return call from Lincoln Pipe Organ Company to get a date set for the Fall tuning/servicing for the organ.

Upcoming/Plans/Needs

Continued music selection/planning for services and the Adult Choir. Reorganizing the music library to an alphabetical system rather than the current numbering system

which makes titles difficult to find. Continuing to invite others to participate in the choir if they feel called to serve in worship.

Respectfully submitted on November 1, 2018

VESTRY ANNUAL REPORTCate Buckner, Senior Warden

November 11, 2018

As I reflected on this past year and thought about what to include in the annual report from the Vestry, it was amazing to me to remember all of the things that our parish community has done and experienced together in 2018. It should not be news to anyone that we have been in a season of transition here at St. Alban’s. During this time, the Vestry made a deliberate decision to work together and ensure that our parish and momentum continued to move forward during this interim period. We ended 2017 with our parking lot project, and the response from the congregation in supporting this project was a clear and visible sign that we as a community were continuing to look to the future.

The Vestry spent the first part of 2018 focusing on our rector search, and engaging the congregation in some self-reflection about the direction that our church is headed and the qualities that we were looking for in our next rector. With the support of staff from the Diocese of North Carolina, feedback from parishioners was gathered at parish meetings, focus groups, and through surveys. The information that we gathered through this process assisted us in the writing of our parish profile, and we are very grateful for the over 100 people who participated in this process. It was wonderful to see the variety of responses that we received, and to get a glimpse of the many reasons that each of you have chosen to make St. Alban’s your home. We spent the spring and early summer conducting interviews with a number of qualified candidates, who were gracious in sharing their time and energy with us here in Davidson during a lengthy interview process. We were privileged to have met some wonderful people, and were affirmed in the good work we are doing as we heard about what it was that had drawn them to St. Alban’s. Smaller task forces were charged with conducting the searches for our Associate Rector and our Music Director, and these searches happened simultaneously with our Rector Search.

I can’t even begin to guess the number of hours that each Vestry member spent engaged in this search, or to tell you how impressed I was with the commitment that they each showed to this process. While we may not have all agreed with each other all of the time, we were able to work together and to respect each other’s ideas and thoughts as we focused on the larger goal and the good of our shared community. At the same time that we were conducting our searches, we were focused on conducting the regular business of the church. This would not have been possible without the dedication of all of our committees and lay leaders, or our amazing church staff that did so much behind the scenes to maintain the status quo and to ensure that everything ran smoothly.

We have had more farewells and welcomes during this past year than any year in recent memory, maybe even more than the past number of years combined. The Ministry of Fun was very busy as they graciously took on hosting all of these receptions! In February, we said goodbye to The Reverend Greg McIntyre, and celebrated the next phase in his ministry as he was called to be Rector of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Mooresville, NC. We were fortunate to welcome the Reverend Edmund Pickup, who served our congregation as an interim assistant this spring and summer. We said goodbye to our Music Director, Colin Burns, as he left to pursue additional educational opportunities. We said goodbye to the Reverend Jim Croom, who served as our interim rector and helped us to maintain our focus and energy during the year he was with us. We were blessed to have a variety of supply clergy step in and provide support on the week’s that we were without or between clergy. We were also blessed to have a variety of musicians fill in throughout the summer and fall to ensure that we had coverage on the organ for our worship together. We were thrilled to welcome the Reverend Kevin Lloyd, who joined St. Alban’s in August as our Associate Rector and the Davidson College Campus Minister and we were -

equally thrilled to have the Reverend Carmen Germino join us later in the month of August, as our new Rector. In October, we welcomed John Bailey as our Music Director and are thankful to again be fully staffed. Last, but certainly not least, we said farewell to our Deacon, the Reverend Rebecca Yarbrough, after more than 10 years of shared ministry.

I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted just reading all of that and thinking about all of the things that have happened. What has impressed me the most about this congregation during this past year is the way that folks have jumped in to provide support to our many ministries and events. In what could have easily been a year of transition during which we were stagnant, and waiting to see what was next, we continued to push forward and focus on the ways that we could minister to each other and our community. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve as your Senior Warden, and a special thank you to the rest of the outgoing class of 2018 – Jr. Warden James Wally, Richard Colven, and Mike Stenhouse. . I am so honored to have been a part of the Vestry and serve with these people for the past 3 years, but more importantly I’m honored to be a member of St. Alban’s.

FINANCE COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT 2018Mary Pylipow, Finance Committee Chairperson

The Budget Process:Priorities are set jointly by the Vestry and the Rector.

The preliminary budget for 2019 will be finalized /revised as needed at the end of the year once all of the Stewardship pledges are in.

2019 Budget Goals include:1. The Outreach budget will now be part of the overall church budget. 2. The Outreach budget is ideally greater or equal to 10% of the total church operating budget. This is

analogous to a tithe to our greater community. Note: 2017 donations estimate, including operating funds designated to outreach, designated account donations ($ 40,927), and in kind goods ($23,700) totaled > $ 64,627 and 2018 donations are expected to be higher than that. (This is equal to approximately 10% of our operating budget)

3. To provide:a. transparency with regard to outreach dollars spent.b. fewer cash requests throughout the year c. continued “fund raising events” that build and support the St Albans community, provide in

kind donations, and/or support designated missions and occur no more than once monthly. (ex: cards for kids, UTO, Thompson’s Children’s relief, Oktoberfest, Community garden flower sale, blanket, coat and turkey drives, shoe drives, Angel tree, soup kitchen etc). Note: 2018, these represented a value of over $29,000 and 2500 hours of volunteer time in outreach done by our members.

d. Note: the Outreach committee, with Vestry’s approval, determines and schedules outreach events.

e. Note: St Alban’s Preschool has an independent operating budget that is balanced, self-funding and reviewed by the vestry and finance committee. The facility and it’s care is provided as an outreach mission of our church.

The Accounting Process:Income and expenses, along with variances, are reported monthly by Erin Garrett, our Finance Director, to the Vestry and finance committee.

Once a balanced budget is set, it is not modified during the year. Any changes approved by the Vestry are reported as variances to the Revenue and Expense report. Both the change and the source of funds are accounted for. Independent accounting audits occur annually (2017 was excellent)

2018 Revenue & Expense Statement and Variance Analysis:Of note:

In 2018, several clergy and staff changes have resulted in some savings. There were time periods when positions were unfilled, and the church was not paying salary or benefits.

Vestry approved $10,000 of expected 2018 excess cash flow to go to the Outreach Committee who voted to designate that to La Escuelita preschool.

Due to quarterly or annual payment of some pledges, the monthly income statements do vary but typically even out by year end.

As of November 5th, Saint Alban's has collected $436,983 (80%) of its 2018 pledges. 2019 budget is bigger as it now reflects the outreach budget.

For Stewardship 2019, as of Nov 5th, we have 126 pledges totaling $498,810 (88%) of our $570,000 Stewardship goal.

Thank you for your pledges!!! It is not too late to turn yours in and help us budget.

OUTREACH REPORTElaine Carmann, Chairperson

“ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was

sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

One of St. Alban’s banners currently in the sanctuary says that “We scatter to serve.” Individually, members do contribute in being God’s hands in this service; however, as a corporate effort, the Outreach Team of St. Alban’s is serving on behalf of our congregation in the community, the diocese and the world!

“Kindness” (or gap-filling) projects:

St. Alban’s Outreach Ministry1) Mooresville Soup Kitchen –St. Alban’s provides cooking and serving volunteers monthly.2) Red Wagon Sunday –Ingathering on the first Sunday of each month by the congregation to

provide food, hygiene, cleaning and pet supplies to the Loaves and Fishes pantry at Ada Jenkins

3) Turkey and Angel Tree drives to provide children and their families with the joy of the holiday season

4) Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now)—packing of 10,000 meals during a multi-generational event during Lent.

5) Moveable Feast Sunday evening meals for Canterbury on Davidson College campus, in support of our campus ministry.

Community partnerships:1) Back2School Blast – St. Alban’s joins other congregations as we provide new shoes and

socks for approximating 250 students. Event is held at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Davidson.

2) Blanket, coat, hat, gloves, socks in-gatherings with Gethsemane Baptist during the fall and winter.

3) Room In The Inn partnership with DCPC to meet emergency housing needs, by providing volunteers to help at the DCPC Congregational House site.

“Justice” (or more permanent solutions) projects that Outreach supports:1) Our Town Habitat for Humanity – permanent housing for client-families.2) La Escuelita San Alban –St. Alban’s established this preschool for non-English speaking 3

and 4-year-olds to prepare them with language skills for kindergarten. We are so grateful to the dedicated staff and board who serve these wonderful children.

3) Participation in the Homeless Task Force with the Davidson Housing Coalition and other houses of worship to expand Room In The Inn in Davidson and work on transitional housing solutions to end homelessness in North Mecklenburg County. St. Alban’s, in cooperation with the family of Liz Slater, has provided the funding for the electronic intake portal in Davidson so all who need safety net-type help in northern Mecklenburg County can begin the process here in Davidson instead of traveling into Charlotte

4) Domestic Violence Coalition – St. Alban’s was actively involved with the Safe Alliance Coalition of Lake Norman helping those in danger because of domestic violence.

International Involvement:1) Galilee Ministries—Volunteers from St. Alban’s participate to help refugees to a assimilate

in our country.

Page 19: MEET OUR NEW VESTRY CANDIDATES - … Report 111118.docx  · Web viewStephanie Amadio. Since 2012, my family has been blessed to be members of the parish at Saint Alban's Episcopal

2) Hogar Escuela in Costa Rica3) Malawi – building of shallow wells4) Placement of Homeless Jesus sculptures on all Continents

These “justice ministries” are ministries that work toward ensuring that all God’s children have equitable opportunities to grow into the fullness of who God made them to be. Adding these “justice ministries” to our “kindness ministries” is a significant indication of the maturing of our congregation’s understanding of God’s call to us and our faithful response to that call. It also requires a more reliable and somewhat higher level of funding, because addressing root causes—which is what justice work is—is hard work, and requires long-term, sustainable commitment, and the funds to leverage partnerships with a variety of organizations to create change.

In order to be more inclusive of the entire congregation in the commitment of St. Alban’s outreach efforts, and to develop this longer-term, more sustainable funding, the Outreach Team has undertaken a revision of our funding. Instead of relying primarily on dedicated giving directly to the Outreach budget, we have worked with the Vestry and the Finance Team to include St. Alban’s outreach ministries through an expanded church budget. The Outreach Team is very appreciative of the congregational support for all of our projects and efforts in these ministries. We pray that God continues to show us the way we can continue His work as He guides our mission.
