MEDICAL

Medical Transcription deals withinterpreting and electronic encoding ofpatient assessment, therapeuticprocedures, medical history and treatmentfrom hospitals and other medical institutionsabroad.
TasksTransforms dictated medical reportsclearly and accurately into writtencomputerized records for purposes ofreference, archives and legal proof ofmedical advice;Transcribe, proofread, and editcomplex medical reports for a broadrange of clinical specialties.
Basic Educational and TrainingRequirements
College degree holder with additionaltraining in a Medical Transcription Course.
Skills and Competency RequirementsMust have a medical knowledge ofanatomy, physiology andpharmacology (i.e. drug names,dosages and us ages);Be familiar with medical terminologies;Proficient in writing (i.e. grammar,punctuation, spelling, sentencecontruction) and listening.
Characteristics and Physical AttributesDependable, Excellent attitude (i.e.flexible, patient, concscientious,resourceful, organized and disciplined).
CompensationMedical Transcriptionists earn anywhere
from P10,000 per month to P70,000 permonth depending on their hours of work,typing speed and type of employment.
Prospects for Career AdvancementA Medical Transcriptionist with 2-3 years
experience can qualify for the position ofEditor after undergoing additional training inan Editor course. He/She must also possesssupervisory, coaching and leadership skills.An editor receives an average of P15,000 -20,000 per month in an office setting.
Types of EmploymentMedical Transcriptionist can work in
various settings: in an office; in their homesas subcontractors; or as direct serviceproviders to doctors and other medicalpractitioners.
