LTFT GP trainees’ experiences

• Work but also training - fits my schedule, gives me control and flexibility

BUT

• You are still training and therefore you have to meet your college’s training criteria

• There may be key training needs/opportunities on your day off so you might have to swap days

• Plan your child care around your rota

Why would you slot share?

• Flexibility to work up to 80%

• You don’t miss out on training opportunities

• Normalises the fact that many doctors need part time working

• Allows OOHs and better pay

• For GP the LTFT advisor will match trainees

• Timetable must be approved before starting in post

The Rota!!

• Meet the rota coordinator/consultant and talk face to face

• Ask what the department expects (days/times)

• Get your ‘one line of the rota’

• Ask to divide it up yourselves

• May need to do top up shifts to make up the hours

Support

Attend your teaching groups and create a support group if possible with other

LTFT trainees.

The juggling of caring for others at home and at work is significant responsibility.

Keep E portfolio and all your WPBA assessments up to date

Ensure you have some child-free time to allow you to do this when you are at home.
