1 INTRODUCTION

IE Consulting was engaged by Medite Europe Ltd. to oversee the design and drilling of two

additional monitoring boreholes at their site at Redmondstown, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary

(IPPC Licence No. P0027‐04). Following a review of the existing groundwater monitoring network

(IE Consulting, April 2014) the requirement for additional monitoring boreholes was identified.

Proposals to drill two monitoring boreholes (AGW7 and AGW8) were submitted to the

Environmental Protection Agency and approved. The monitoring boreholes were installed in

January 2016. This report provides details of the design, drilling and completion of the monitoring

boreholes.

2 BOREHOLE LOCATIONS

The borehole locations, as agreed with the Agency, are shown in Drawing No. IE1054‐003‐A

(Appendix A). The position and elevation of the boreholes, as shown in Table 1 below, were

surveyed in by Capital Surveys on 5/2/16.

3 BOREHOLE DESIGN & INSTALLATION

Petersen Drilling Services Ltd. was engaged to undertake the drilling and the works were

supervised by a hydrogeologist from IE Consulting.

The boreholes were drilled and installed on 5th ‐ 7th January 2016.

Drilling in the overburden was undertaken with a dual drive system with casing of 150 mm OD

(outer diameter) and drilling in the bedrock was undertaken open hole at 120 mm diameter.

Both boreholes were finished at 52 mm ID. AGW7 was drilled to a total depth of 15.4 m and AGW8

was drilled to a total depth of 15.7 m. Both boreholes are screened in the upper, weathered

bedrock zone. Detailed borehole logs are provided in Appendix B.

4 HEADWORKS

The headworks for both boreholes were completed flush with ground level as both are located in

areas of traffic movement.

5 WATER LEVEL MEASUREMENTS

A round of water level measurements was taken from the existing monitoring boreholes and the

new boreholes AGW7 and AGW8 on 29/1/2016. The water levels were reduced to Ordnance

Datum (Malin). The measurements are provided in Table 2 below.
