Medicine, although a longer and harder field of study, has it’s own pros. If you’re already studying medicine or just planning to do so, you need not have to immediately think over your field of specialization. You have 5 yrs to decide what exactly you are interested in. However, it is essential to analyze if medicine as a whole is the right field for you.Among several people who were asked why they chose medicine, majority replied saying they love working with people. This absolutely holds true. If you’re a people person, medicine is the right field for you. Here, you need to have a lot of tolerance towards people of all age groups, be it children or old age. During the course of study, you will be able to polish your skills better and also learn not to form bonds toward any patient or their diagnosis, which is extremely essential.If you like being involved in the progress of human kind and civilization in the most direct way, medicine is meant for you. You may either be involved in saving a sick patients life or finding a new medicinal cure for a disease. Either way you have the ability to directly help in the curing process.India or other regions of Asia and Africa are in high demand of doctors. As a result, you tend to have a greater deal of job stability, especially in the countries still coping with recession. Another advantage is the commonality of medical language around the globe. You be educated in India or Europe, terms like vertebra or clavicula have the same meaning on every side of the world.

Another important factor to be kept in mind prior choosing medicine is to ensure that you’re a team player and like working with others. Right from your college days you will be divided into groups to make sure you’re able to work with other doctors and nurses in your work field. Without teamwork, you can not succeed in the field of medicine. Opting for an MD or MS course with a specialization. It’s either a 3 year degree course or a 2 year diploma program. An entrance exam, AIPGMEE need to be given for the same. Students usually take a break of 2-3 years prior a specialization course to polish their field of interest better.

One can also opt for studying in the US with USMLE or MS/MD from US or other countries. One can also choose to do research or PhD programs in the US or in India to get into the research field of medicine.

In India, you can also choose to get into civil services post MBBS. (IAS/IFS etc). It is a good career option and is chosen by many doctors. However, you won’t be dealing with patients anymore.

There are various other options available that one can choose from. Above mentioned points are just to give you an idea that opting to choose the field of medicine has various career prospects and it is one such field that can never go off the market.
