MEDICINEMedicine is both a science and an art. It is the science o uncertainty coupled with the art o probability. In act, medicine is not justa Science that can be taught, but an Art that has to be learnt. The journey through medical school is an exciting teaching-learning
experience, which involves acquisition o knowledge o human structure and unction in health and disease, and the application o the
same in a clinical setting using critical thinking and problem solving skills. In the initial years o medical education, the science behind
the intricate orm and unction o this magniicent engineering marvel o nature (that we call the human body) would be unraveled.
The art o medicine is something that is acquired over a period o time, the learning o which starts at the portals o medical school
and continues well ater graduation. A career in medicine means lielong learning and a lietime o service towards the wellness
o mankind. The process involves the subtle metamorphosis o the rather inexperienced and innocuous medical student into a
compassionate, learned health proessional with high standards o moral and ethical values, who cares about the communal health othe society, nation and the world.
The attributes o a good doctor have or long been discussed and debated. While the term may be diicult to deine and the ultimate
person itting the description hard to ind, what the public expects is a skillul diagnostician, competent in selecting and administering
treatment, while being an eective communicator. Good doctors are also caring leaders and tireless team players in healthcare,
with ethical emphasis, technological sophistication, strong sel-discipline and proessional proiciency. Proverbially, a good doctor
cures sometimes, relieves oten and comorts always. This age-old saying is applicable even today and may be relevant or all the
years to come as doctors continue to champion the cause against disease, curing ailments, alleviating pain and oering physical and
psychological consolation to patients.
The IMU with its unique partnership with world renowned Universities ensures the training o such doctors through its international
benchmarking, high standards o academic quality, innovative curriculum and inculcation o strong social and ethical values.
Medicine is not just a science thatcan be taught, but also an art that
has to be learnt.

The International Medical University (IMU) began in 1992 as the International Medical College,or IMC, Malaysias frst private medical college. IMC became a University in 1999, but theUniversity has remained true to key elements o the IMC vision, which are to widen accessto proessional healthcare education, and to use innovative, integrated and student-centredmeans in providing that education.
This vision required strong links to be orged, rom the outset, with reputable Partner Medical
Schools committed to excellence and who share our educational philosophy. It was ourprogressive, systems based, integrated medical curriculum that frst caught the imaginationo our Partner Medical Schools, and today we collaborate with partner universities inAustralasia, North America, Ireland and the United Kingdom. This successul collaborationthen expands to the pharmacy and health sciences programmes at world-class universitiesin Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and China.
Since 1999, the Universitys growth and development has been in developing clinicalschools in Seremban, Batu Pahat and Kuala Pilah, our own Honours degree courses inPharmacy and Nursing, and in establishing research as a core activity, together withdevelopmentofpostgraduateresearchMastersandPhDprogrammes.Wearealreadythe preerred private school or medicine and pharmacy in Malaysia.
