Medical Director, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Network
Dana -Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) is seeking a Medical Director, DFCI Network ,
responsible for clinical operational oversight for DFCI’s four hospital-licensed satellites and
three community-based physician practices. S/he reports to the Chief Medical Officer and works
as part of a triad with nursing and administrative operations leadership at the main DFCI campus
as well the Network sites. This positon will be located at the main campus to facilitate on campus
and network program coordination. Providing a significant and increasing portion of care,
DFCI’s network sites are essential to continued DFCI growth, as space becomes increasingly
limited at the main campus. The Medical Director, DFCI Network will participate in
development and oversee execution of overall clinical strategies and initiatives in the DFCI
Network. S/he will develop and lead initiatives to improve clinical performance in the Network,
while leveraging larger DFCI resources. In partnership with DFCI and local site medical,
nursing, and operations directors, the Medical Director will oversee the satellite clinic
operations, enhance the relationship with and support the practice of physicians within the
community sites in order to maintain the highest standards of safety and quality clinical care. The
Medical Director will be engaged in the education of housestaff and fellows at the main campus
and at the community sites. The Medical Director will drive “systemness”, including
operationalizing technology, promoting and monitoring care pathways, implementing clinical
trials and developing consistent performance and quality metrics across the enterprise.
The position requires a physician executive with clinical skills in a cancer-related discipline.
The ideal candidate will have seven or more years of progressive experience in a physician
leadership role within a medical group or ambulatory care. A demonstrated track record of
implementing operations that improve quality and safety in an ambulatory oncology setting
preferred. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and engaging leader with strong communication
and relationship management skills.
The academic appointment may be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level at Harvard
Medical School and determined by the applicant's credentials. Salary and benefits will be
competitive with other institutions. Applicants should have an MD or MD/PhD degree and
should be board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.
