Do mobile apps increase audience figures?
No !
Streaming apps account for a small amount of listening: as low as 30 minutes a week, perhaps.
Listening happens on headphones, and therefore is unlikely to be measured by PPM or other electronic
measurement systems.

Yes !
A station logo on a users’ homescreen from an apphas beneficial effect on brand recall:
great for countries using diaries or telephone research. (We look at our phones 150 times a day)
!
Aggregation apps (TuneIn, Radio.de, Radioplayer and others) can introduce new listeners to radio stations, thus increasing reach/cume.
(Radioplayer tablet app users listen to 4.6 stations a week;versus RAJAR’s 2.1 stations a week for AM/FM listeners).

In summary
• Offer more than a live stream
• Accompany your stream with information
• Let your audience be interactive
• Make more than one app
• Market them on the radio (evenings/weekends)
• Focus on Android just as much as iOS
• Think about personalisation: it’s the future
