Indie Band Posters

indie bands tend not to use posters

as advertisement because with

technologies today there is no need

and it doesn't correlate with their chill

vibe. however some bands have

released digital posters advertising

their new albums/singles and tours.

Kings of Leon

this poster shows the different members of

the band in a unique/creative way. the writing

and colours of the picture correspond and the

‘out now’ is in red making it bold and stand

out against the dull blacks and greens. The

poster isn't over complicated making it go

with the theme of the band. the image used

and style of font is the same as that of the

album cover making the two have a

contextual link making it recognisable to fans.

Arctic Monkeys

Again very simple. This poster is the

same as the album cover and simply

advertises the new album. Arctic

Monkeys are known for not caring about

anything and being very laid back as well

as dark and mysterious so the use of

only black and white in this poster shows

this and keeps up the image.

Modest Mouse

This poster advertises the bands tour dates

in the U.S. the colours and style of the poster

is more animated than posters that advertise

albums. the link with nature and animals links

with the bands name ‘mouse’ (mouse and

hare). All of the bands album covers are also

cartoon like and do not feature the band. the

weird quirkiness of this album appears to

correlate with the style of thebans something

i need to think about with my poster.

Not much correlation apart

from style.

Of Montreal

This album also uses a cartoon style to it

however after looking at the bands

album covers i see this is the style they

tend to go for. Again the album links with

nature in animation and colours.

Their album covers tend to

be chaotic like doodles.

My Poster

From research I can go two ways with my

poster a fun vibrant cartoon style or a laid back

simple style. I feel due to the style my band

portrayed in their video and through other

factors such as digipak, clothing etc. that my

poster should be more laid back however i

have constantly challenged the conventions of

an Indie band throughout by using vibrant

colours in my music video and my digipak so i

feel i should also use this in my poster some

way.

My Digipak

I plan to create a poster similar to the

Kings of Leon poster I have analysed. I

also want to take inspiration from the

more animated posters I have studied

including the vibrant colour theme I have

used throughout my video and digipak.
