MEDIA RELEASE Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) locations on Hamilton Mountain consolidate CIBC Breast Assessment Centre’s OBSP welcomes women with no signs of breast cancer for routine breast screening (HAMILTON, ON --Nov. 10, 2016) Hamilton Mountain’s two Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) sites are consolidating as of Nov. 21, with Chedoke OBSP staff and equipment moving to the state-of- the-art CIBC Breast Assessment Centre located at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre. “This consolidation means that former Chedoke clients, along with any eligible Hamilton area women, can now have their routine breast screening done at one of the most advanced assessment centres of its kind in Canada,” said Regional Cancer Program Director Carol Rand. “Former Chedoke clients will see the same friendly, familiar faces at the new location. And should a client have an abnormal screening result, they’ll be familiar with the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre, which offers leading-edge care in the diagnosis of breast cancer while also reducing the need for multiple appointments and minimizing the time spent waiting for test results.” The CIBC Breast Assessment Centre opened in 2014, offering comprehensive, multi-disciplinary and leading-edge care in the diagnosis of breast cancer. It also acts as a regional resource for women at high risk of developing breast cancer. The OBSP is a provincial program offering free, high-quality mammograms to Ontario women aged 50 to 74 with no signs of breast cancer. It’s recommended that these women get a mammogram every two years as part of their routine medical care, since early detection through mammography can result in significant health benefits including increased treatment options and better survival rates.Healthcare professionals recommend that women have breast screening done through the OBSP, which must meet standards including accreditation by the Canadian Association of Radiologists and well-developed quality assurance activities. The CIBC Breast Assessment Centre’s OBSP is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and every second Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. “We may extend hours even further, based on demand,” said Rand. “We’re committed to making routine breast screening as easy and convenient as possible.”
