Media Release 7 September 2014 80’S BAND COMEBACK TO HONOUR LOST BANDMATE Terry Barker Tribute Concert @ Charles Hotel 3 October 2014 Members of the 80’s Perth music scene will be coming together at Charles Hotel on 3 October 2014 to perform a tribute concert dedicated to raise funds for melanoma, in honor their band mate Terry Barker who sadly lost his battle with the disease in late 2013. During the 1980’s Terry was the lead vocalist and front man for several notable cover bands in Perth such as The Motors/Formula 1, The Xtras and Spiny Norman which all had huge fan bases. He was also closely linked to other bands from that era such as Tuxedo Wave, Mirror Men and Hustler. Terry was also heavily involved in the music scene in the Northern Territory from the 90’s until his untimely death. In 2014 his former band mates, friends and family formed Musicians for Melanoma and other Cancers (M4MOC) – dedicated to raising funds to support research for melanoma and other cancers. The Terry Barker Tribute Concert is their first event. The concert is starting at 8:30pm and will feature original band members from The Motors, Tuxedo Wave, The Xtras, Mirrormen, as well as special guest Chuck Hargreaves from Uncanny X-‐Men. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from www.trybooking.com/FIHL Joining the band line up is Skarlett from Darwin who are flying down to perform in honour of their father and uncle. Terry's sons, Arran (17) and Lachlan (14) Barker are following in their father’s musical footsteps, and are now the third generation of Barker musicians. Their grandfather George Barker being a long-‐standing local performer in Darwin.
There is also an online auction site for M4MOC @ www.32auctions.com/m4moc featuring items such as Fender Stratocaster guitar, Wings autograph picture, Sam Worthington memorabilia and Tahitian pearl necklace. Leonie Warburton, Terry's wife says that ‘music was Terry's passion. On stage he was full of energy. His sons now carry the honour of Terry's musical legacy, and like their Dad, push as much energy into every performance’. ‘Terry would be stoked that this concert is being held in his honour. Any funds that assist to progress critical research that prevents other families having to endure the brutality of melanoma, then it is our privilege to have Terry's name honoured this way’, Leonie said.
