MY PITCH.
“You have been commissioned by the northernecho to produce a new magazine or newspaperproduct. Your product could be in any style orgenre but it must be self financed through salesor advertising. You must also product yourmagazine for a specified audience segmentwithin the 16-25 age group.
”
HOW I WILL MEET THIS BRIEF To successfully meet my brief I have: • Created a magazine to appeal to a C2DE
audience in order to try and reach out to a younger audience and expand the current range of readers The Northern Echo have.
• Created a budget magazine so that it won’t set back The Northern Echo financially, or the readers for that matter, using up and coming journalists to promote youth working.
• Created a magazine of the ‘Skate’, as well as the ‘Youth Culture’ genre, targeting people ages 16-24 to unlock different lifestyles to young people.
• Chosen a magazine which is commercially viable and exploits a gap in the market for it’s genre.
• Created a magazine that is self financed using sales and charging for advertising inside.
WHY SKATING
• I have skated for a number of years
• benefits of the lifestyle • I am passionate about
skating as a culture • I can understand the
misconceptions of skateboarding
• gap in the market in • Encourage interaction
AUDIENCE PROFILE• The tribes that would fit into my
audience profile would be somewhat of a combination of skaters, young alternatives, creatives and urban artists.
• My audience age range would be 16-24 and hold a mixed, but predominantly male audience.
• C2DE socioeconomic status • The education status of my
audience will range from a high school diploma level to a university degree level.
• Usually low income, if any at all, with lots of students living off student finance.
• Buying behaviors of other magazine’s include music magazines such as NME or Rolling Stone, average spending: £0 - £2.50 (approximately)
FACTORS FOR CONSIDERATION /Secondary Audience:
My Secondary audience includes people around my primary audience and The Northern Echo readrers.• Parents, brothers, sisters, friends, as well as other skateboarders
and generally creative people• To keep my secondary audience satisfied, I must: - Have no nudity - Have no inappropriate or negatively influential content.- Create articles which are appreciated, respected and understood
by the skateboarding community as the focus of the magazine is about their culture.
- Try to minimalize the amount of taboo language I use.
FACTORS FOR CONSIDERATION //
Constraints – The IPSO (Independent Press Standards Organization)
The IPSO carries out regulation of magazine publications in the aim to protect the welfare of the public. The Editors’ codes of practice has 16 categories of rules labeled as ‘clauses’ which if breeched result in an appropriate punishment.
I need to ensure that I do not breech any of these clauses and approach the possibility of encountering them in an appropriate way.
FACTORS FOR CONSIDERATION ///
1. 2.3.4.5.
I will always seek request conformation from models & parents or guardiansof the models if the age of them were to come into play before photographing them. I will obtain permission from the holder of information that I gather to use to ensure I do not encounter any copyright infringements .
I will carry out my interviews auditorily, record them, then create a transcript of the interview to guarantee accuracy in my articles.
All images will be taken by myself without using sources such as the internet in order to protect myself against copyright infringement.
I will make sure that I check with the individual(s) with which my story concerns that my content is okay to publish with them before I do so.
GENRE RESEARCH – FRONT COVER
GENRE RESEARCH - COVER
Young models
Active imagery.
Minimalistic layout & imagery of

Generally consistent color scheme
GENRE RESEARCH: DPS
Refined use of color in text
Mixture of serif/sans-serif
fonts
Organized layout of imagery and
text
Lengthy paragraphs of

Contrast in effects used in imagery.
Image heavy.
HOW WILL I IMPLEMENT THIS I will make sure that I follow guidelines that I set myself based on what my target audience like in a magazine which I know from audience research. I aim to: • Use a diverse range of imagery and image effects, making sure
that my articles are either a 50:50 ratio between images and text, or image heavy.
• Use a mix of active and passive imagery, contrasting between the effects I use to make my images appear the way I want them too.
• Use a combination of Sans-Serif and Serif fonts to achieve the design I want too, as well as using a variation of colloquial, taboo, and emotive language in my articles.
• Use young models of either sex in order to keep my audience broad in the niche I have selected.
• Have a minimalistic layout for my magazine cover to place focus on the imagery rather than to overelaborate on the content of the magazine.
