Skyfall

Sony and MGM produced Skyfall Sony is able to use its status as a big

company. It used a broad appeal and blanket

advertising. They had more power than small

companies and could get viral marketing. They were able to use synergy and cross

media convergence a lot easier than for small companies.

which is before the release of the film so would have advertised the film and worked up a craze for it before it was even released.

Skyfall facts

Twenty third Bond film Made by Eon Productions Distributed by MGM and Sony pictures entertainment. Sony worked along side the creators of the Bond films and

created a special Skyfall edition of the phone which is called the Bond phone - synergy.

MGM and Sony use cross media convergence and synergy in order to enhance the profits made from each.

On the Sony Bond lifestyle website is shows props from the film such as products available including cufflinks, watches, cars, food and drink, clothing etc.

Cross media convergence is also shown in them having a website which contains a magazine.

By filming in forty world wide countries the film created a worldwide audience, for example by filming in Shanghai thy created a huge Chinese audience.

Comparison of Ill manors and Skyfall

They are both British films but Ill manors is more ‘British’ than Skyfall as it deals with social issues and themes relating to British society. It was also funded and filmed in Britain.

They both had strong opening weekends at the box office.

They both have a high profile musician linked with the film whose music was released close to the film release date.

They are both different genres. Skyfall is an Action/adventure and Ill manors us a gritty social realist drama.

Sony is a large international conglomerate.

With distribution, Sony can use its status as a conglomerate. It had a very broad appeal and blanket advertising and publicity were used.

It can use Synergy – Tom Ford clothes, CD, Omega watches, Aston Martin cars, Coca-Cola, Jewelry from Swarovski.

that go into the movie plot and locations.

It is not a conglomerate so cannot with stand losses.

Had to be financed by Film London, BBC films and was supported by skill set and the UK film council.

Advertising campaign had to be aimed at a very specific audience.
