Denotation is a translation of a sign to its meaning, precisely to its literal meaning, more or less like dictionaries try to define it. Denotation is sometimes contrasted to connotation, which translates a sign to meanings associated with it.
Connotation is an idea or feeling which a word invokes for a person in addition to its literal or primary meaning.
Signifier a sign's physical form (such as a sound, printed word, or image) as distinct from its meaning.
Signified means a meaning or idea expressed by a sign, as distinct from the physical form in which it is expressed.
