PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION OF STARTING BIBS Centre of Wisła, Hadyna Amphitheatre Traditionally held in the very heart of Wisła, the ceremony has already become a permanent feature of all the Grand Prix events organised in the town so far. On Thursday, 19th July, after the qualification, the top ten jumpers will be invited to join a few thousand crowds for a public distribution of starting bibs. This offers a unique opportunity, for both jumpers and fans, to gather and celebrate yet once more the amazing ski jumping festival.
WORTH SEEING IN WISŁA In your free time, you should visit the Skiing Museum which exhibits a rich collection of skiing equipment and some skis dating back to the 19th century. The Adam Małysz K-134 Ski Jumping Hill in Wisła – Malinka it is now the most modern facility of this type in Poland.
The exhibition of objects connected with the life and art of the highlanders from the Silesian Beskids can be visited at the Beskid Museum. Near the Museum there is also the Enclave of Wooden Construction.
One of the local attractions is also the Wisła Głębce Railway Bridge with impressive dimensions, seven spans, the length of 120 m and the height of 25 m. A lot of good impression can be expected from a walk on the promenade along the crown of the Czerniańskie Lake dam. The dam is 280 m long and 30 m high. It connects the Biała Wisełka and Czarna Wisełka brooks.
WISŁA – TOWN AT THE SPRINGS
Wisła - the Pearl of the Beskids is situated in the southern part of Poland, in the centre of the Silesian Beskids, in the vicinity of the border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The town is surrounded by forests and mountains and is distinguished by its specific location in a few valleys, unlike other mountain towns. Friendly and hospitable residents of Wisła build the atmosphere of homeliness and naturalness. All this makes the town vibrant all year long. Each day spent in Wisła is a guarantee of exquisite and unforgettable views, smiling and warm-hearted people around and various pastimes. If you want to relish what is really worth trying, you are kindly invited to Wisła. The fans of Wisła can choose from among more than 9.000 accommodation options of varied standard. The town tempts visitors with its perfect tourist and recreation infrastructure, local cuisine and spectacular nature.
Wisła has gone a long way of development from the shepherds’ settlement to become a popular mountain resort. Throughout ages, it has been influenced by various cultures. Today, it is the place where you can observe respect for tradition at every step: from the well-considered and coherent architecture referring to the modernism of the inter-war period typical of Wisła, to the celebration of folk customs.
The Palace of the President of the Republic of Poland built in the period 1929-1930 and given as a gift to President Ignacy Mościcki deserves special attention. The Palace is a true pearl of Wisła’s architecture.
TOWN FOR ACTIVE PEOPLE Wisła is a real paradise for the fans of active relaxation. Thanks to advanced infrastructure, most sports disciplines can be practiced here. Thousands of people fascinated with white craze come to the town each winter to enjoy their stay among more than 30 ski lifts with perfectly prepared skiing routes and many kilometers of certified FIS cross-country skiing tracks on the Kubalonka Pass.
Well-marked tourist and walking trails wait for tourists. 150 km of marked trails lead through the Beskids, offering unforgettable views. In Wisła, fans of mountains and horses can do horse-riding in the mountains and admire charming spots in the town and around the Beskids on horseback.
Wisła’s nature makes an impression with the diversity of its flora and fauna. The mysteries hidden in nature can be explored along the educational path running to the Barania Góra mountain. The Rodła Cascade deserves special attention. It is undoubtedly the most exquisite complex of sixteen natural water bars in the region of the Beskids, with the height from 0.5 to 5 m. The history of Wisła is also closely bound to... grouse. Today, this bird is bred in the Wisła Forest Inspectorate.
BESKID CULTURE Location of Wisła was conducive to preserving the local dialect and developing artistic talents of Wisła’s highlanders and the Beskid culture. The separate foklore of the Silesian Beskid is visible in construction, clothing, art, songs and the customs of the local people.
The specific nature of the region and its customs can be best learnt by participation in cultural events. An obligatory event is the Week of Beskid Culture, the largest folk event in Europe. Almost 4,000 performers from all over the world come to this folk holiday. Concerts are accompanied by the fairs of folk art and exhibitions.
Wisła’s cultural offer is very varied and everyone may find an event for themselves. The fans of tradition are tempted by e.g. the Honey Festival, the Harvesting Festival, the Wisła’s Days, the Summer with the Philharmonic, the Brass Band Festival. Very popular are also sports and tourist events.
