In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media?

RESEARCH VS. FINAL

Titling

Research Our Final Production

- Simple colours and fonts are used- Not many names included- Sometimes no credits at all- Usually over black or a simple background.

Example:

-We used a simple white font over a black background.- Included only names of the production company’s and some writing to tell a bit of the story.

Camera Movement

Research Our Final Production

- Camera does a lot of planning and tracking shots- Birds eye view shots are sometimes used.- Camera often follows characters.- Zooming was often used as wellExample:

-We used a lot of panning shots in our final production as the girls ran through the park. We did this as panning and tracking shots were widely used in the films from our research.Example:

Framing Of Shot

Research Our Final Production

- There are lots of close up’s used to show characters reactions to things.- The characters are always the main feature of the shot.- There are also lots of long shots that are zoomed in on.Example:

-We used different framing shots for variety in our film.- We used a close up on the phone when dialing and also of the girls talking to each other.- Long shots were used when the girls were running along as the camera panned with them.Example:

Camera Angles

Research Our Final Production

-There were a lot of low angle shots used, which help create suspense by just showing the characters feet or looking up at them.- High angle shots were also used to look down on the characters to make them look small and insignificant.Example:

-We used some low angle shots to look up at the characters talking to each other- We also used a low angle shot and close up when we showed just feet running along.

Mise –en-scène

Research Our Final Production

-The lighting is very dark and gloomy in the ring.- Normal locations used, e.g. typical teenage girls bedroom.- Lighting tends to change with mood.- Normal everyday costumes used.Example:

-We filmed outside during day time so the lighting was natural and bright and the mood was relatively positive at this point.- We used a simple location of a everyday park where you normally would find joggers.Example:

Editing Directions

Research Our Final Production

-Editing can be slow at some points as the opening 2 minutes generally aren't that fast paced.- There usually isn’t any quick cutting or jump cuts used.

Example:

-Most of our editing is slow cuts from clip to clip.- We also added extra slides that were just black backgrounds with a simple white font explaining a bit of the story. These used a fade transition.Example:

Sound Techniques

Research Our Final Production

- Diegetic sounds such as the sound of rain and televisions are heard in the background.- Music was added to most of the films we saw to help create the mood and add suspense.- Music used was often somber and played by strings.

- We kept the diegetic sounds in our piece, we have the sounds of wind and rustling bushes, there are also cars heard in the background.- We also decided to add a song over the top as this helped to create the mood and make it seem more eerie.
