Singapore Garden Photographer of the Year 2017 Photo Competition The Singapore Garden Photographer of the Year (SGPY), a year-long national photo
competition, aims to create a greater appreciation and awareness of our natural heritage
through the lens of the community. It was first launched in 2014 in celebration of Singapore’s
50th birthday.
The SGPY 2017 photo competition was officially launched on 29 November 2016 and closed
on 23 August 2017. It featured an open category and Instagram category. Participants could
submit photographs of what they thought best represented the three themes, namely:
“Gardens and Landscapes”, “People and Nature” and “Our BiodiverCITY”.
The competition attracted over 10,700 entries for the Open Category and over 5,500 entries
for the Instagram Category. The first prize of each theme comprises a Nikon D7200 Kit and
$2,000 in cash. For this edition, winning entries that depict the activities at Fort Canning Park
(under the People and Nature theme) and our underwater biodiversity (under the Our
BiodiverCity theme) also received a bonus prize. The overall grand prize winner (Ong Yi Chao
“Evening Beauty”, from Theme 3) received an additional $1,000 cash and an exclusive guided
walk for two to the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park.
The competition’s presenting sponsor is City Developments Limited (CDL), supported by
Nikon and the Photographic Society of Singapore (PSS).
