TRANSCRIPT
Rallycross is head-to-head short, sharp racing on mixed surfaces (dirt and asphalt) contained within
amphitheatre venues. High profile drivers are equipped with RX Supercars with over 600bhp and
the ability to accelerate from 0-60mph in less than two seconds – faster than an F1 car. Race
meetings include four action-packed qualifying heats (Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4) with the most successful
drivers progressing through to semi-finals and a final.
HISTORY OF RALLYCROSS
Rallycross was invented by Robert Reed, who was the producer on ITV’s World of Sport programme
at the time. The first event took place at Lydden Hill on 4 February back in 1967, where it quickly
became a staple of Saturday afternoon sports in the UK with both ITV and BBC broadcasting
rallycross. The popularity of rallycross soon spread, with the first event on the European mainland
held in Holland in 1969, with the Scandinavian rallycross debut taking place in Sweden two years
later.

ABOUT COOPER TIRES
Cooper Tire Europe is sole tyre supplier and Associate Partner to World RX. The company
has a very long and extremely successful history in the rallycross arena and is the
rallycross tyre of choice for competitors across the world, having supplied tyres to
European Rallycross Champions for the past two decades.
Cooper’s supremacy is thanks to its unique rallycross tyre composition, which offers
unrivalled levels of grip and traction on both tarmac and gravel, to provide the best all-
round performance. For competitors to tackle the changing surfaces, from tarmac to
gravel, they need a tyre which is capable of handling both rough and smooth surfaces.
Meeting this unique challenge is something that Cooper excels at and particularly
prides itself on www.coopertire.com
A rallycross tyre needs to have several elements to cope with the demands placed on it. It
needs a pattern that conforms to the technical regulations and a compound suitable for both
gravel and asphalt surfaces. It needs a complex construction that gives unrivalled
performance with the strength to take the punishment that these surfaces give when tackled
with a 600bhp car. Unsurprisingly, this isn’t easy!
