Meaning Of Environment

Environment is the sum total of all surroundings of a living organism, including natural forces and other living things, which provide conditions for development and growth as well as of danger & damage.

Living things do not simply exist in their environment .They constantly interact with it.

Organisms change in response to conditions in their environment.

The environment consists of the interactions among the plants animals ,soil ,water , temperature ,light ,&other living & non-living things.

the word environment is used to talk about many things .people in different fields of knowledge (like history ,geography ,or biology)use the word differently.

An electromagnetic environment is the various radio waves that equipment such as radio & radar can meet.

In psychology & medicine a person’s environment is the people ,physical things, places, &events that the person lives with.

The environment affects the growth & development of the person.

It affects the person’s behavior.

It affects the person’s body &mind.

In biology & ecology the environment is all of the natural materials & living things ,including sunlight.

This is also called the natural environment .

The important things in the environment that we value are called natural resources.

E.g. – fish, sunlight, & forest. These are renewable natural resources because more grow naturally when we use them.

Non –renewable natural resources are important things in the environment that do not come back naturally, for example coal &natural gas.

Environment is the events & culture that a person lived in.

A person’s beliefs & actions are dependent on his environment.

Definitions

The circumstances ,objects ,or conditions by which on is surrounded.

The complex of physical, chemical &biotic factors (as climate ,soil & living things) that act upon an organism or an ecological community & ultimately determine its form & survival

The environment is defined as the whole physical & biological systems in which man & other organisms live.

Types Of Environment

There are mainly three types of environment-

1) The physical environment.

It is also known as ‘a- biotic’ environment.

The meaning of ‘a-biotic’ or ‘physical’ is non living like land water air conditions atmosphere

which constitutes of soil .

It also includes the climatic factors such as sunbeams, rainwater, precipitation, moisture, pressure & wind speed.

The importance of physical environment

The most important thing to make house is residential space, & for residential space ,we need land area .The land area is included in physical environment. So it is responsible for the residential for living beings.

The a-biotic environment like soil, water & air are the necessary nutrients element provider for the living beings.

All the living beings are surrounded by the atmosphere; it is the combination of different types of gases. The living beings takes oxygen & other gases from the atmosphere.

The a-biotic environment also controls the climatic factors like weather.

The physical environment also includes the soil which is responsible for the works & food crops for the living beings. It also provides different types of minerals which are very necessary for growth of life.

Water is one of the most necessary things for living beings ,physical environment also deals with the water factor of the earth.

2) Biotic environment.

It is also known as biological environment & organic environment,

In the opposite side of the physical environment, the biotic or biological environment is responsible for the living beings.

The meaning of ‘biological’ is living being. So, the biological environment is the environment which involves the living part of the earth.

The importance of biotic environment

In this type of environment includes the plants , living beings including human beings &microorganisms like bacteria & fungi.

the living beings are highly dependent to each other. For e.g.- humans are highly depend upon plants &trees for food & oxygen ,&plants &trees are also depend upon humans & animals because of co2.

3 ) Social & cultural environment

This type of environment involves the culture & life style of the human beings.

The social or cultural environment means the environment which is created by the man through his different social & cultural activities and thinking.

The historical ,cultural ,political ,moral ,economic aspects of human life constitute to the social or cultural environment.

The importance of social or cultural environment

Culture involves the religion of the human ,relations with each other etc.In a society there involve different types of people, they have different religion ,different thinking ,which has culture of its own & posses people having their own life style.

The social & culture environment affects the social culture of human beings & hence it has the great importance.

The development of child is highly depends upon culture & society.

COMPONENTS OF ENVIRONMENT

Environment consists of all living and non – living things which surrounds us .

Therefore ,the basic components of the environment are :

1 ) Atmosphere or the air

2 ) Hydrosphere or the water

3 ) Lithosphere or the rocks or soil

4 ) The living component of the environment or the biosphere
