We are excited to see these efforts progress, as we feel they will help level the playing field to the benefit of profes- sional shop owners and technicians. • The committee was happy to provide assistance in getting the Scan Tool Resource Center vetted and ready for members. Donny Seyfer, ASA chairman-elect, led the project, and with the expertise of the Autoshop Solutions team, it’s now a reality. The culmination of everyone’s efforts will be available later this month. For the initial launch, basic tool information will be available on the NASTF website, www.nastf.org. Later, upon further development, ASA members will be able to use a member login to the ASA website to access a special “members only” version of the Scan Tool Resource Center. This area will offer a blog component that allows members to share information with one another about specific tools and also rate the features of each tool. • Parts quality is still a powerful issue for members. ASA is pursuing collaborative efforts with various organiza- tions to strengthen communication between the repairer and the part manufacturer and distributor. • We are excited to see more doors open to the revital- ized ASA. Dan Risley, ASA executive director, has been relentless in pursuing and building relationships with our industry partners. Bob Redding, our Washington, D.C., representative, has also worked extensively with the OEMs in pursuit of better communication and under- standing, in addition to maintaining and strengthening our relationships with associations we interact with frequently. • Voting for the national board candidates will take place next month. As we focus on the 2014 elections, it’s not too soon to begin thinking about the next elections in 2015. All ASA shop members are invited to get involved as volunteer leaders of the association. Bill Moss, Mechanical Division director, says, “In the nearly 10 years that I have been associated with the Mechanical Operations Committee, I have been blessed to be allowed to work with, and learn from, a cast of selfless profes- sionals. From ASA staff to volunteers, they tend to deliver more than asked, always looking for the benefit for the member. I encourage you all to volunteer in any way you can. The association and the industry can benefit greatly from your knowledge and energy, even when you don’t think you have either!” • Congratulations to Diane Larson, owner and manager of Larson’s Service, who was selected as the Female Service Shop Owner of the Year by the Car Care Council Women’s Board. Larson currently serves on ASA’s Mechanical Division Operations Committee. Detroit 2014 • CARS 2014 will take place July 30-Aug. 1 at the Cobo Center in Detroit and will be co-located with NACE, I-CAR, CIC and the Collision Repair Education Foundation.
