Reading Leadership Team will meet to review, discuss and submit feedback to the state on the grades K-12 Curriculum Framework.

Ongoing Professional Development

Grades K – 11

As PD requests/needs are identified, opportunities will be organized by the Literacy Coordinator for the division and by the Reading Specialist at their school.

Reading Specialists and teachers develop and identify resources for the 2010 English standards.

Summer 2011

Curriculum Revisions Grades K-12

Teachers and Reading Specialist Teams will revise the GPS to include 2002 and 2010 English content and newly identified resources.

Reading & Writing Program Evaluation

Our reading & writing program promotes research-based literacy instruction to increase student achievement.

A committee of K – 12 teachers, the Literacy Coordinator, and administrators will be formed to :

Gather, organize, and analyze the current reading & writing program

Make recommendations for better alignment between beliefs and practices

All math teachers will attend professional development in February on the content changes at their grade level.

Social StudiesVA SOL Revisions

Social Studies textbook adoption 2009-2010 led to the purchase of SOL correlated content readers in grades K-3 and local grade 4 standards

New locally developed curriculum for grade 4 in response to K-12 strand data analysis noting student need for more emphasis on geography

Social Studies textbook adoption grades 5-12 led to purchase of class sets of Virginia specific editions of textbooks aligned to the SOL. In addition to textbooks, teacher and student laptops will be used to expand curriculum and instruction opportunities through eResources correlated to the new SOL.

Remaining funds budgeted for eResources : increasing the number of student laptops and implementation of Stratalogica, an online atlas and mapping program to improve geographic content in all social studies classes

Economics/Personal Finance courses to be implemented with next year’s freshman class. No SOL test at this time, but must pass each course to graduate by 2015

development opportunities provided by VCSS, VGA and VDOE to assist in implementing SOL revisions.

All teachers attending professional development in August and October in preparation for Revised Social Studies SOL content, the laptop initiative & Stratalogica.

Members of Team Social Studies are identifying specific needs, both PD and materials, within their school and submitting requests to the Social Studies Coordinator.
