Attendees: The usual hangers on, job hunters and those who like to hear their own voice.Apologies: The usual people who always say they’ll come, but always let us down at the last minute.Minutes of Last Meeting: Pretty much the same as these ones.Introductions: Attendees introduced themselves to the camp stating their name, their company and what they hoped to get out of this month’s meeting.• Some said more than others (the regular hardcore campers bigged themselves up as much as they possibly could and dropped a few names.)• The other attendees tolerated this with smiles and sideways glances to see if anyone else had picked up on this.Topic of Discussion: This month we threw “How do you measure social media?” out there to the group.•People said the usual unfunny stuff about rulers, protractors, scales etc.•Then someone (forget who) mentioned their amusing “How long is a piece of social media?” tweet sent prior to the meeting.•Others stated they re-tweeted that one. •There was a low level crescendo of laughter which died down and was followed by an awkward silence.Group Discussions: The campers were then split into smaller groups of three or four people, given a flip chart and pens to discuss real life examples of social media strategies and how they were measured.•In each group there was someone who took the lead (and the pen) with the sole intention of making a bit of a name for themselves.•The groups then held some frantic and heated debate, with the following observations:

•A lot of people got carried away with the moment and said things they wouldn’t normally say , like “Cool” “Absolutely” “Big Time” “Wow” “Awesome” and “Seriously”.•Some members became fed up with being talk over by those with lower levels of self awareness and became introverted...and occasionally disruptive.•Others only made suggestions about their own company’s offering with a view to increase their commission payments.•Some offered a few comments designed to open up recruitment conversations.•Several odd looking diagrams were drawn on the flip chart accompanied by incoherent writing.

Group Presentations: The loudest and pushiest member of each group then presented the summary of their group’s preceding discussion. Key points:•These presentations had no reflection on what was discussed, but represented the individual’s own personal thoughts.•Surprisingly, there was the odd good idea presented, which everyone else made a note of so they could steal it and use it for their own benefit.

•A “Guest” bamboozled the campers with Bayesian Logic. No one understood, but pretended that they did and said how great it was.

•People from other groups interjected and asked questions so that their voices could be heard.•After each presentation there was a cheesy round of applause.Summary & AOB:There was a general agreement that this month had uncovered some really ground breaking stuff, and there was a lot of thought leadership demonstrated.•Everyone agreed and felt good about themselves; some even started to cry.•It was also agreed that Google Alerts were still a great thing to use.•The tall baldy bloke with the heavy knit jumper agreed to update the Wiki

•He pretended to show some reluctance, but really this was always his special moment at the meeting.

•Volunteers for a venue for next month’s meeting were sought, but not confirmed. The obligatory, let’s do it by the seaside in Brighton was suggested.•A date for next month’s meeting was discussed when everyone produced their latest smartphone/gadget. No date was agreed.

•Please check #measurementcamp on Twitter and the Wiki for very last minute confirmation.Meeting ended with some milling around and some facial expressions feigning interest in what was being said by others.
