Measurement and Performance Tracking (MAPT)
Enhancing capacity to measure emissions/emissions reductions and track performance towards meeting climate and energy goals.
MAPT Activities in Ethiopia
1. National GHG inventory training
2. Corporate emissions tracking from the agriculture sector
3. Support to institutions tasked with forest and land use policy tracking
1. Ethiopia National GHG Inventory TrainingNational GHG inventory training workshop jointly with IPCC’s Task Force on National Inventories Technical Support Unit.
1. Ethiopia National GHG Inventory TrainingIncluded discussion of the following sectors:
· Energy Use and Fugitive Emissions· Industrial Processes and Product Use· Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use· Waste
2. Agriculture Sector Corporate ReportingSupport the measurement of emissions specifically in the agriculture sector through the implementation of accounting guidelines aimed at major agricultural corporations.
• Adapt and apply international GHG Protocol Guidelines for Agriculture to the Ethiopian context.
• Provide targeted training on the use of the tool
2. Agriculture Sector Corporate ReportingAgriculture GHGP includes guidance such as:
• accounting for changes in the ownership and management of carbon stocks
• understanding which sources should be included in inventories
• setting and tracking progress towards emissions reduction targets
• embedding GHG emissions mitigation into private sector agricultural production strategies.
3. Support to institutions tasked with forest and land use policy tracking Outline the institutional functions, mandates, roles
and resources needed for an effective monitoring
Provide examples of best practice through a series of case studies
Identify capacity building priorities in Ethiopia through institutional mapping and workshop
Next Steps – Collaborative development of data management tools
