Since its founding in 1958, ARCS Foundation has grown to 16 chaptersnationally and invested more than $91 million in the potential of nearly9,000 of the most outstanding American graduate and undergraduateScholars in science, engineering and medical research at 54 of thecountry's top research universities. Since 1985, the San Diego chapteralone has contributed nearly $9 million in support of Scholars at ourfour ARCS-approved recipient institutions:

San Diego State University • The Scripps Research InstituteUniversity of California, San Diego • University of San Diego

We are very proud of what ARCS Foundation has accomplished. Weknow that we have a mission that is important to our country'seconomic recovery, our global technological leadership, and ultimatelythe well-being and quality of life for all people.

Allocation of ARCS Scholar Awards

The formula includes ranges to permit adjustments to a rigidmathematical percentage allocation of funds to precludepartial awards or to meet the minimum number ofmandated scholar awards. 56 scholars received awards in2014-2015, and 62 scholars are projected to receive awardsin the 2015-2016 academic years.

The amount of funding available for ARCS Scholar Awards iscalculated each year by using a distribution formula based onthe percentage of eligible scholars enrolled at each ARCS-approved recipient university. Therefore, for the 2014-2015academic year, awards were allocated as follows:

2014-2015 HONOR ROLL V San Diego Chapter V JULY 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015Gifts received for awards to be made in the Academic Year 2015 – 2016

100% of each contribution is directed to the Scholar Award Fund.

ARCS Foundation provides a unique vehicle for supporting Scholars inscience, medicine, and engineering without incurring administrative over-head. Member dues and event underwriting cover all operating expenses, and members donate their time to provide most administrative services.

There are two ways to support ARCS Scholars studying to complete theirdegrees in science, medicine, and engineering. The first is to make anannual gift to the Scholar Award Fund. The entire amount is awardedwithin a year of receipt. The second way to support Scholars is through agift to the Endowment Fund. The principal continues to accrue interest inperpetuity; Scholar Awards are made from the interest.

I. Annual Gifts to the Scholar Award Fund Gifts to ARCS Foundation Scholar Award Fund support continuingand new Scholars at San Diego State University, The ScrippsResearch Institute, University of California, San Diego, andUniversity of San Diego. Gifts to the Scholar Award Fund may bemade by check, credit card, or through gifts of appreciatedsecurities. Gifts received during the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) areawarded at the beginning of the following academic year.

II. Gifts to ARCS Foundation Endowment Fund Gifts to ARCS Foundation Endowment build an investment fund, theearnings of which provide a permanent source of income essentialfor supporting a portion of the Award Fund in perpetuity. Wheneveran Endowment grows by $150,000, the interest earned generates a$7,500 Award. The Virginia Lynch Grady Endowment Fund, theWally Schirra Memorial Endowment Fund and the ARCS Endow-ment Fund are examples of permanently endowed Scholar Awards.
