In my other Association management position, I had always written an article for every newsletter. I feel like we are finally in a place where I can do that here in the Meadows and hope-fully contribute to the content of the newsletter, give you tidbits about what is coming up for the community and things you as a resident should be watching for more information. I have worked in large scale management a long time, and enjoy work-ing with the residents the most. I look forward to hearing from you, providing feedback, asking questions, and know that I have an open door policy and if there is something I can do to make living in the Meadows better, please reach out to me. My email is [email protected], or call 303-814-3952. This article is on New Year’s resolutions, and so I share with you my resolution this year is going forward I will write an article for every Meadows Living newsletter to keep you informed.

Was one of your New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, go to the gym more often, get more involved in something, start a new hobby, or perhaps, volunteer more in 2016? Give back to your community? Have I got some great opportunities for you! We are now accepting resumes for the Board of Governor position that will be vacant this spring. The Board of Governors is a policy making board to assist in managing the affairs of the As-sociation. There is full time management staff that is responsible for implementing board policy and managing the day to day operations.

What does it take to become a Board member? The person must be an owner of a privately owned site within the Neighborhood company area, and be at least eighteen years old. It also takes a dedication to your community and a time commitment of one board meeting a month on the first Thursday each month and a willingness to make decisions for the greater good of the com-munity. An understanding or experience serving on a non-profit board is helpful but not required. We also have executive ses-sions when needed to discuss litigation, or personnel matters. Board members receive monthly board packets with current As-sociation information so they can be reviewed, and be prepared to discuss and make decisions at the monthly board meetings. The elected position would serve a two year term which would begin June 2016. Running for the board requires attendance at several meetings through the election process as well as attend-ing the annual meeting in March. The Board of Governors is a policy making board to assist in managing the affairs of the Association. So you say that serving on the Board is just a little too much for you to commit to right now, well, how about serving as a District Delegate? We have 6 Districts in which we have Del-

nEIGhBOrLy nEWS

News You Can Use! egates that are elected to represent the homeowners within their District. The Delegates serve a one year term and in their role as Delegate, they approve the Budget and elect homeowner repre-sentatives to the Board of Governors.

If you are interested in running as a Board of Governor, or a Del-egate for your District, please submit a brief one paragraph state-ment of candidacy and a resume no later than February 1, 2016, mail or drop off your statement at The Grange, 3692 Meadows Blvd, or The Dacoro Administrative office at 3740 Dacoro Lane, Suite 145, or you may email your statement to Alex Gormley at [email protected]. If you have questions, regarding the positions, please feel free to email Alex, or call 720-476-4006. Candidate bios will be posted on Meadowslink.com as soon as they are available. Please note: If you are interested in the Board of Governor or District Delegate position you must be available on March 3, 2016, for the Annual Members Meet-ing, March for the annual budget presentation and the Annual Delegate meeting on Thursday, May 5, 2016.

So you are reading this and saying you just don’t have time for all the meetings or time commitment currently, but perhaps would be available to volunteer intermittently? How about assist with any number of our special events? One of the benefits for living in this community is our great special events. All of the events require a lot of time, labor and volunteer assistance. Even if you cannot volunteer the entire event, but could still give a couple of hours—anything, still assists us in providing the best event pos-sible for you and the other community members. We need you, come and join us for the greater good of this community you live in. We encourage all adults as well as teenagers to volunteer to get their community service credit with us! Opportunities are always available on the Volunteer page on Meadowslink.com or you may call Kent at The Grange, 303-814-3953 or email [email protected].

We are currently working on the Morningview Pavilion con-crete replacement, which will be closed during the renovation. We also have recently replaced a bank of mailboxes in the Morn-ingview area. If you have a mailbox that is damaged and needs attention, please contact us at 720-476-4006. We have had some increased vandalism to our mailboxes, so if you see someone damaging them, please call the police and report the incident. We need to reduce the vandalism so that we do not have to con-tinually pay for their repair. If you are having a key issue with your mailbox, you still would contact the USPS in Castle Rock for assistance, as we do not have anything to do with the keys, or lock maintenance.

Hope all of you have a wonderful 2016 and we look forward to seeing you at one of our next meetings or events, helping you fulfill your New Year’s resolution!

Welcome 2016Let us hope that among your New Year’s resolutions to exercise more, spend less and eat right that you added in some commu-nity-minded thoughts. We would love to have you volunteer at our community events, such as Music in The Meadows. Also, in the spirit of the new year, let’s pledge to work together to keep The Meadows beautiful by maintaining our homes, keep-ing our sidewalks free of snow, ice, and trash cans and recycling bins. Let’s continue to be good neighbors and together we can keep The Meadows such a great place to live!

It’s that time of year that we update the Architectural Guide-lines. The proposed updates and clarifications have been re-viewed by the Architectural Review Committee as well as the Board of Governors. They have now been made available for resident review on the community website, under the Hom-eowner Resources tab. The language being removed is shown with strikethroughs and the proposed text is shown in red. The

intent of what has been added is easier to understand language or clarifications to existing guidelines. Visit www.Meadow-slink.com. If you have comments or questions please contact Alex Gormley, Assistant Director/Community Manager at 303.814.3958 or email [email protected]. The Pro-posed Guidelines will be approved by the Board of Governors following the review period. Then the final version will be pub-lished to the website.

New Year’s Day in The Meadows

January 1 is a lot more than getting used to changing the last digit when typing the year on your emails. For many it is a chance to start fresh and make changes in their lives. Some resolve to lose weight and work out more. Others spend it with family and friends celebrating passed down traditions and focus-ing on health and wealth in the year to come.

What makes the The Meadows a true community is the fusion of people from all over the country and the world calling each other neighbor AND friend.

We asked a few residents just how they bring in the New Year:

“We do Hawaii style local fireworks at midnight. All year we collect bubble wrap and then the kids jump on it at midnight and it sounds like fireworks! Also, we always put money in our pockets before midnight so we will have money throughout the year!”-Tricia, Hawaii Native

“Eat, drink, Rose Bowl Parade, bowl games, bowl games, bowl games! And we make resolutions. Mine for 2016 is to work less and play harder!”- Michele, Arizona Native

“In my country, New Year’s is the biggest party of the year. Food is cooked in every kitchen. Big roasts like a whole pig, lamb, or tur-key along with a baked sauerkraut dish and stuffed cabbage rolls. Men, women, and children are all dressed their best. Midnight hits and every-one is hugging and kissing and there are fireworks. The party continues with someone playing old folk songs on the guitar. Then everyone gets together again on New Year’s Day and celebrates more! It is truly a huge celebration that is looked forward to and talked about all year”-Dzenana, Bosnian Native, raised in Germany

“We let the kids stay up until midnight, watch the ball drop and have a champagne toast and then on New Year’s Day we watch college football all day. We organize a college bowl game pool, which of course is better when Michigan State is in!”-Shelly, Michigan Native

“Mom always made me eat at least one bite of black-eyed peas for good luck on New Year’s Day!”-Jennifer, Oklahoma Native

“For our Chinese New Year traditions, we eat certain foods that symbol-ize different things. We eat noodles for long life and oranges to symbolize good fortune. We hand out red envelopes for luck in money and we clean the house for a fresh start to the New Year.”-Kelly, Chinese heritage, raised in Texas

“I’m from New York, so of course watching Dick Clark and the ball drop in Times Square has always been a must. Now that I have kids, we watch a live broadcast on cable, 10:00 p.m. for us here in Colorado, sing Auld Lang Syne, have a toast and call it a night.” –Jimmy, New York Native

Participants will take a 12x12 cradled birch board canvas, prime it, and then paint on the background color. Once it dries we’ll do some “smudging” to get the look of chalk on the background. We’ll then sand the edges to distress it and use a stencil to add our wording to the sign. It may sound complicated but it’s super easy to create this beautiful work of art for your home. All supplies are included. You can choose your stencil design from several different patterns. The included pictures are just examples of the stencil designs. Actual stencil designs available at the class may vary.

The Children’s Hospital Colorado is bringing their mobile blood drive to The Grange and we need to know, can we count you in? 32 slots will need to be filled for this donation between the hours of 9 am-12:45 pm. Our goal is to fill up 2 vacancies every 15 minutes that the drive is going on. Every year at Children’s Hospital Colorado, 8,000 units of blood products are transfused into sick and injured infants, children and teens. Without this blood, many of the lifesaving procedures performed at Children’s Hospital Colorado would not be possible. Blood donation does not cost money and requires little time. It does, however, make a big difference.

If you are interested in participating please visit www.MeadowsLink.com and click on the Events and Programs tab at the top of the page and then click on the Blood Drive drop down tab. Then read the eligibility requirements

Blood Drive at The Grange and if you qualify you can sign up on the website.

Make sure and take down any holiday lights and put away any holiday decorations in January.

Continue to maintain all curbs, gutters and sidewalks on or adjacent to your property free from snow and ice.

Spring snows are typically very moist, which can be heavy on your tree branches. When you can, knock snow off to prevent the branches from breaking. The moisture is great for roots that are just on the verge of growing. You may notice your lawn starting to turn green in early March.

February and March are a great time to prune trees.
