ATTENDANCE DESK
Did You Know? Children who enjoy school and who are engaged in school want to go to school every day.
When kids attend every day they learn skills and make friends. This helps them be successful both
academically and socially.
Here’s How You Can Help:
Regularly ask your child about school.
What do you like best about your class? What would you like to change about your class? Why?
Tell me about what you do before school, at recess, after school.
What things are you learning in school?
Tell me about upcoming family events at the school that we should plan to attend.
When the answers from your child indicates there are problems contact someone at the school (teacher,
counselor, principal) and ask for help addressing the problem.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION IS OPEN
Will your child be 5 years old on, or before August 31st? If so, now is the time to register for
Kindergarten! Kindergarten is free and an important part of your child’s success in school and life.
Kindergarten begins in late summer or early fall, depending on your school district, but it is important to
give yourself time to ask questions and get help with paperwork. Discover more by visiting kregnow.org.
MULTICULTURAL NIGHT IS COMING SOON!
Meadow Ridge will be hosting our annual Multicultural Night in May. If you’d like to participate please contact Mrs.
Walker at 253-373-3054. We are looking for families to bring a dish of food from their culture to share! Families can
also wear cultural dress. It’s a fun night of sharing and enjoying our diverse community.
NEED BREAKFAST?
Meadow Ridge serves breakfast every morning EXCEPT on late start days and early release days. Breakfast
starts at 8:05 am and ends at 8:25 am. If you would like your child to have breakfast, please make sure they
arrive at school with plenty of time to eat.
BIZTOWN FIELDTRIP
The 5th Graders took a field trip to Junior Achievement’s Biztown on
Tuesday, March 14th. The students were “hired” to work jobs for
major companies. They even got to learn how to cash a paycheck! And
many of them came away with wonderful keepsakes that they were
able to buy with the “money” they earned for working.
JUMPROPE FOR THE HEART
Meadow Ridge Elementary will again be partnering with the American Heart Association to present this year’s Jump
Rope for the Heart Fundraising Event. Students who receive 10 or more donations online, will be entered into a prize
drawing for a chance to win a Go Pro camera!
ART WALK
Some of our talented Meadow Ridge artists participated in the Kent Student Art Walk in March. Their
artwork was prominently featured at the Sweet Themes Bakery (317 W. Meeker St. Suite A) in downtown
Kent. The featured artists were: Su Su, Makayla Mitchell, Alishan Alishanov, Manleen Kaur, Evelina Khudan,
Lovepreet Khokhar, Janaya Harrell, Cheyenne Lopez, Artiom Godovan, Makyla Bolinger, Ruslana Mayster,

FUN WAYS TO STAY ACTIVE IN SPRING
April showers bring May flowers, but all that rain makes regular outside games pretty diffi-
cult. Below are some fun ideas you can try with your family that are recommended by the
Washington State University’s Food $ents program:
Turn on music and have a dance party!
Take your walk inside. Add a few laps around the store or mall before shopping, or try a
walking video.
Turn house work into a workout. Listen to music to keep yourself moving.
If you enjoy exercise videos, check out the selection of exercise videos at your local
library. They will likely have enough variety to keep you from getting bored!
Use canned goods as hand weights for a bit of strength training while your dinner cooks
or during commercial breaks while watching TV.
Play active games like Duck, Duck, Goose, Simon Says, Musical Chairs, or Follow the
Leader.
For those rare, non-rainy days put on your rain boots and jump in some puddles, or take a
walk keeping your eyes peeled for spring flowers like tulips and daffodils.
ABACUS IN ACTION
Mrs. Durfey explains how to use an abacus to students.
