Dear Meadowbrook Families,
It is already May and we are maximizing every instructional minute possible! All 4K-Grade 5 students are engaged in exceptional learning experiences and working to gain proficiency in each standard before they move on to their next grade level! In addition, students are showcasing their yearly achievement gains through the PALS and MAP Assessments. Results of these assessments will be shared with you soon!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the incredible volunteers who have showcased their leadership this past month:
Tracie Kitchener and all who helped with Family Day at The Springs on April 18th!
Amanda Shaske and the Justice Service League for the Rummage Sale on April 26th! Thank you to those who offered to sell items and/or donate baked goods! What a wonderful way to give back to our community!
Megan Braatz and her leadership with High Interest Day on May 3rd! Your leadership provided an awesome day filled with amazing activities! Thank you to the many others who helped organize the day and/or facilitate sessions! Your efforts are truly appreciated!
The PTA Sunshine Committee for providing staff members with “Teacher Appreciation Week” recognition this week! We are beyond thankful for your ongoing love and support!
I am grateful to announce that we will be welcoming Mrs. Richelle Fueger to our Meadowbrook Family in Grade 4! Mrs. Fueger will be replacing Lisa Bruce as she begins her next chapter as a retiree- see the tribute on the next page! For the past 15 years, Mrs. Fueger has been in the School District of Waukesha at Heyer, Prairie, and Hawthorne. We are very excited to have her with us!
You are once again asked for your feedback as we are beginning to develop Homeroom Class Lists for the 2019-2020 school year. While I cannot accept specific teacher requests, I am happy to consider details about your child’s learning style and social needs. Please see the note that you received about this in your child’s Thursday Folder on May 9th, and submit confidential information to me by Friday, May 24th.
Please consider joining us at our annual Adult Game Night on Friday, May 10th, at Tuscan Hall. You are guaranteed to have fun, as we have an opportunity outside of the school building to socialize and share some laughs! We hope to see you there!
As we finish the last few weeks of the school year, we are looking forward to creating many unforgettable memories with all of our students. On behalf of the entire Meadowbrook staff, thank you for your support as we lead your child on their educational journey. Have a terrific end to the school year and let us know if we can help you in any way!
With gratitude,
Jessica N. Barry Principal

Congratulations to Mrs. Lisa Bruce Lisa Bruce, esteemed Meadowbrook teacher for the past 36 years, will be retiring at the end of the school year. If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting her, she is an extraordinary educator and an incredibly beautiful person. Her kindness, empathy, and nurture have helped many students and so many others to strive to be become individuals. Mrs. Bruce- you are remarkable and have forev-er changed our lives! Congratulations and make your next adventure unforgettable! Godspeed, dear friend!
Counseling Connection This month during social/emotional learning lessons, students worked on career planning and year-end review. The school counselor provide learning activities within the lesson that helped students recognize their learning style and unique aspects of their personalities. Please ask your student what they learned about themselves from this activity.
Has Your Family Received An Attendance Letter? The School District of Waukesha believes that successful students attend school on a regular basis. Schools across the district are required to send letters of concern to families once a child misses five days of school, ten days of school, and/or has accrued multiple tardies. Understand that these letters are “form letters” that are generated through Infinite Campus. If you are the recipient of one of these letters and have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Barry directly. Remem-ber that is always best to obtain medical excuses for your child each time that they have to attend an appointment during school hours. Medical appointments do not count towards the ten-day limit.
Did You Know That Many Teachers Work Over The Summer Months? The last teacher workday for the 2018-2019 school year is on Tuesday, June 11th. However, many teachers still attend conferences and workshops over the summer, as well as work on their upcom-ing plans. If you need to reach any teacher over the summer months, you are welcome to send them an email and they will respond to you when they are able. Otherwise, Mrs. Barry does work over the summer months, so it is fine to reach out to her. Her direct line is 262-970-2010.
Summer Building Renovation Starting on June 11th, our building will begin a Secure Entrance Building Renovation that is project-ed to be finished by Open House in August. That being said, understand that starting on June 12th, the entrance to our building will not be through the front doors. You will need to contact Mrs. Barry directly for access: [email protected]
More information about this will be in our brief June Newsletter.

Dear Meadowbrook Families,
I am retiring after the 2018-2019 school year. WOW! It has gone by so quickly. After my interview with the principal, Fred Jones, I had a feeling that I would be offered the job. Jill Cooley (secretary at that time) gave me a tour of this four-year old school. It was impressive with its open classrooms and team approach.
I was hired the week before school started in August of 1983. From the moment I met the staff, Elouise Ben-ner, Katie Kara, Rick Samann, Ellen Wruck, and Gail Moran, I knew I was in a special place. They em-braced my ideas and supported my growth. Since then, I have been fortunate to enjoy many more Meadow-brook colleagues’ and family friendships.
Meadowbrook parents are unsurpassed in their dedication to excellence for all students. They are our stu-dents’ first and foremost teachers and have supported me in and out of the classroom for many education endeavors. Our PTA has always been generous with their time , talent, and treasures! I am grateful to their consistent support, including their delicious conference meals and creative fundraisers. Thanks for always lending a supportive hand in our students’ learning experiences!
I figure that I have had the privilege to impact the lives of about 1,800 students in my career at Meadowbrook. Teaching grades 3, 4, 5 and 6, during my time here and has enabled me to learn so much about our world, country, history, and life lessons. Learning side-by-side with Meadowbrook students has kept me young, inquisitive, positive, and has inspired me to grow intellectually and spiritually. The most gratifying moments I experience are the personal notes from parents, students, and colleagues about our positive learning jour-neys. The humbling human bonuses received from this noble profession are when former students return to reminisce or job shadow me because they are interested in becoming an educator. What other profession can you touch the future for an entire year by encouraging the growth of a mind and a spirit?
I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to be at the BEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT. It is the best because of the people, vision, and dedication to, ”Growing learners and inspiring possibilities.” Principal Jessica Barry has made my last seven years at Meadowbrook memorable with her unwavering support and friendship. I am grateful for her leadership and dedication to our school’s mission and vision.
Thank you Meadowbrook for 36 gratifying years of joy, love, and learning! Teaching is indeed a work of heart! Warm wishes and an attitude of gratitude, Lisa Marie Bruce

Dear Meadowbrook Families,
In preparation for 2019-20 school year, we are emailing families with online information available for
students with a health concern. The district website has contact information for Nursing Services and
necessary medical forms needed for your school's Health Room Assistant. Current students with specific
procedures and/or medical needs, not available on the website, will be contacted during the summer for any
medical updates. A link to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Diabetic Clinic Forms is also available.
If your child has a life-threatening allergy, seizure disorder, asthma, daily medication or diabetes, please use
link below for the necessary forms:
Nursing Services and Health room Forms
If you are new to the district or have a medical concern, you would like to discuss, please contact the
District Nurse. Contact information for District Nursing Services and Community Outreach Nurses is also available. Please work together with your child's physician over the summer to discuss the best plan for
school. The forms require a physician's signature.
I will be available at both Form’s and Fee’s Day on August 8th from 8:30 am-2:00 pm and Meet the Teachers
Evening on August 29th from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm. You may bring completed forms and medications with you

Tick Management With the arrival of spring and eventually summer, ticks are sometimes a concern on school
properties. Ticks begin to appear in the spring as eggs develop into larva. The late spring and
summer are the highest risk seasons for tick bites. Please make sure you are checking your
children frequently.
Tick Management Checklist
Deer ticks are most active from April-October, so be extra cautious when venturing into tick country.
In a tick-infested area, use an insect repellent. Consider using a product designed to be applied to cloth-
ing rather than your skin.
Tuck pants cuffs into boots or socks, and wear long sleeves and light-colored clothing so it is easier to
spot ticks.
Stay to the center of hiking paths, and avoid grassy and marshy woodland areas.
inspect yourself and your children from clinging ticks after leaving an infested area:
ᵒ Deer ticks are hard to see:
▪ nymphs are dot-sized;
▪ adults, smaller than a sesame seed.
If you discover a tick feeding, do not panic: studies indicate that an infected tick does not usually transmit
the Lyme organism during the first 24 hours.
If you suspect Lyme disease or its symptoms, contact your doctor immediately.
