Why MDS.web?

There are a number of legal material requirements and manufacturer specifications that regulate the substances that can be used when manufacturing products. The resulting liabilities require precise knowledge of material compositions in order to create partial or complete declarations for such items. In order to support you in meeting these challenges, tec4u developed the MDS.web software to communicate, manage and evaluate material data.

What are my products actually made of?

Entrepreneurial success is directly related to the fulfillment of legal requirements. In an international environment, how-ever, the data required is often not available, the communi-cation processes are only in early development stages, and the existing documentation tools are frequently insufficient.

With MDS.web, you can easily query and evaluate legal requirements such as REACH and RoHS or check customer specifications, manufacturer standards or material safety information sheets. To get valid data, suppliers need to be aware of, and ultimately integrated into the Material Com-pliance Process. As a result of the heterogeneous supplier structure and special supplier agreements, however, it is necessary to contact each supplier individually. In addition to systematic material data management, MDS.web there-fore also offers you the option of individual correspondence with your suppliers and approaching the subject according to their capabilities.

Data structures in MDS.web

The system offers you two separate customer areas:

1. Parts management with stored products2. Supplier management with a communication module

Parts management

MDS.web imports your production parts lists and supplier master data. You are able to analyse, evaluate and archi-ve the gained data concerning their compliance to material specific requirements. The data is structured to provide you with a quick and clear overview of your products. You define the depth of information available.

MDS.web

MDS.web can help you find potential risks. You can iden-tify problem materials and initiate a substitution program if necessary. Information regarding declaration obligations or regarding prohibited or regulated materials is available at the click of the mouse and the company-wide export function allows you to transfer the data smoothly into all standard PLM systems.

Supplier communication

The communication module contains a range of correspon-dence templates and escalation models for you to choose from. You can decide which supplier is contacted for which requirements and how often.

First you load your supplier master data and the structure parts lists for your products into the system. Then you can contact suppliers using the appropriate tone. The communi-cation module provides you with the following functionality:

Initial messageThe first correspondence with general information about operating the system, log in data and a basic introduction to the subject.

Information from the supplierThe supplier uses the form provided to illustrate the de-gree of implementation of Material Compliance Activities (REACH, RoHS, etc.).

Materials and documentation inquiry Inquire regarding legal or customer-specific material requi-rements for the supplied products. For example, whether a product contains regulated substances and if yes, which substances in what quantities or due to what exemption. The supplier can use the list provided to associate the regulated substances with his product. For items produced in house you can enter the information on your own. Docu-ments such as safety information sheets can be queried for equivalent products and then archived and evaluated using MDS.web.

Efficient and flexible operation

The MDS.web application runs on a Web server. This guarantees access to the system regardless of location. Simple and flexible models allow you to calculate benefits and costs. Suppliers can use MDS.web free of charge.

Be certain from the start

Failure to comply with material requirements leads to risks and costs for the company, for example in the form of change costs for materials or tools just before production begins.

Thanks to specific correspondence and the helpful communication module you can reach high levels of acceptance among your suppliers. Overall, this translates to a high quality and quantity of data while reducing communi-cations and evaluation costs.
