In the safety unit, I leaned many facts including the meanings of many common safety symbols and different pieces of lab equipment. I also learned when to use protective gear, how lab equipment is used and what it is used for. However, out of all the things I learnt, the most important was that the lab is a dangerous place when the equipment in it is not used correctly, so you need to use your common sense in the lab.

Do I really need to be safe?

Yes, You do! This knowledge about lab safety is important to me because it will help me stay safe in the lab; furthermore it will help me keep the lab a safe environment so that other people who work in it can stay safe as well.

The information I learned in the safety unit might be applicable in other environments, such as some hospitals, factories and perhaps in a nuclear power plant,(if I ever visit these environments).

In the future, I will use the knowledge I gained in the safety unit to keep me safe, to keep others safe, and perhaps one day, to teach others how to be safe in the lab. I may also use this information to help my dad when he is working with his tools so that I can keep him safe by telling him whether he needs ear protection, or eye protection or some other kind of protection he has forgotten to put on. Some lab rules may apply to the kitchen as well, because in the kitchen lab, the recipes are the experiments and the saucepans are the test tubes, but they come attached to their test tube holders! There is also dangerous heat (the stove) used in the kitchen, so lab rules definitely apply. The safety unit was extremely helpful!
