A MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE…
As you know, the Ministry of Education has announced that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020
school year. Although, we are disappointed that students and staff will not be able to return to school, we understand the
importance of public health and keeping our communities safe.
McKay teachers are continuing to work hard providing a balance of engaging online and offline learning opportunities for their
students. It has been a pleasure to watch rich student learning continue in so many varied forms. We will even be holding a
virtual Track and Field meet for our grade 1-8 students on June 4th. Special thanks to Mr. Clarke-Louie for organizing it; watch
your child’s/children’s class website for details.
These precedent setting times call for a unique approach to many of our year-end activities such as packing student belongings,
providing report cards and graduation.
Personal Belongings: We recognize that students have left personal belongings at school and the DSBN is working with Public
Health authorities on a process for families to gather them from the school, during the week of June 8th to 12th. Please email
our secretary Mrs. Quesnel ([email protected]) to book a date and time that works for you. When emailing, please
indicate which date (June 8- 12th), and if AM or PM is best; also include your child’s name and your phone number.
Report Cards: All students will receive a final report card at the end of June and, if in the best interest of your child, the work
they are doing from home can be taken into consideration when assessing and evaluating their overall achievement. Details
about how report cards will be provided to families is forthcoming.
Graduation: We are pleased to have the opportunity to celebrate our grade 8 graduates in June. Although our graduation
celebration will look very different from previous years to accommodate Public Health guidelines, our staff are planning to
provide each graduate with a special experience. Our graduates and their families will receive more detailed information soon.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work through the current learning environment and for supporting your
child’s continued engagement in learning.

Lions learning at home… future engineers,
scientists, artists, and chefs. So proud of
our pride!
All payments that were made by families
through SchoolCashOnline, for items that
have been cancelled, have been refunded
via SchoolCashOnline. This included April
pizza, March subs, and grade 5 and 6 stop
motion workshops.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Primary
Division Krispy Kreme fundraiser, which was
scheduled to take place during the Province-wide
school shut down. Cheques have been mailed out to
all McKay families who submitted an order. Please
reimburse the people who ordered from you with
our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.
Quebec Year End Trip Cancellation
All students who signed up for the grade 7 and 8 year-end trip will be reimbursed for all monies paid. Because
travel insurance was included in the purchase price, families will be reimbursed through Travel Guard for payments
made, less a $51 deductible. McKay school will refund families the cost of this deductible using the funds that were
raised through our pasta and movie days. In addition, all students who participated in poinsettia, North Country,
and Krispy Kreme fundraising drives will be reimbursed for the funds they raised. When possible, cheques will be
mailed directly to families to cover both the deductible and individual fundraising.
