Beeline Publisher “Bernie” Merry Christmas, God bless America

Cover Story Niagara Falls – Ed “Fast Eddie” Madson with the assistance of Les Green put together a great reunion this Sept. at Niagara Falls. Registration was a breeze at the Sheraton and they made us feel welcome. In fact everything was breezy, got a bit chilly at night, and that’s why we have the hostess room.

Besides the ever availability of the charms at the casino across the street there were great things to see and do. Thursday was a trip to the Buffalo Naval and Military Park. It is the largest inland naval park in the United States. The Naval Park includes the Destroyer USS The Sullivans (named for five brothers who lost their lives in the Battle of the Solomon Islands when their ship sunk), the Guided Missile Cruiser USS Little Rock and a WWII submarine, the USS Croaker (SSK-246). There was also equipment from the Vietnam War and a section dedicated to those veterans. Then it was on to the CB Memorial in nearby Tonawanda NY. Now we are into it. On site was a large Stainless Steel Seabee, a 2008 bronze statue of Seabee Joseph Darlak wielding a rifle and a sledgehammer, and a big yellow Seabee D-8 dozer. The monument was built by the members of the NSVA Island X-8 NY, and was financed by donations for space on the wall for Seabee’s names and units. Friday was the Maid of the Mist boat ride, lunch at Top of the Falls Restaurant, and visiting the Cave of the Winds.

Future reunions include July 2016 in Duluth, Minnesota and a cruise out of Port Canaveral, Fla. for the 2017-18 Reunion.
