1935: Towards the end of the year, at the
request of the leading citizens of KL
and Sentul & with the approval of the
Government, the Methodist Mission
undertook to erect an English School in
Sentul to help meet the urgent demands
for an English Education.
The Sentul Methodist Boys’ School
was born. The School’s founder was the
Rev. P. L. Peach, a popular and dedicated
American Missionary Principal.
Rev. Preston L. Peach was not only
the School’s founder but was also the
first Principal of the School....

Mr. William Dudley,School’s 1st Teacher
Mr. William Dudley, a senior teacher from the
Methodist Boys’ School, Kuala Lumpur was the first
Teacher.
The first batch of
pupils of the School
were Ah Loy, Jegaraj,
On February 10, the first class with 7 pupils was
started at the back of the Methodist Tamil Church,
Sentul.
were Ah Loy, Jegaraj,
Chan Weng Chiu,
Ahmad, Ng Sik Kong,
Punchacharam &
Gurubachan Singh.
From then on, the
school progressed and
by the year’s end, the
number of pupils grew
from the original 7
pupils.
1939:
1937: Due to the untiring efforts of Rev. P. L. Peach with a number of
helpers and various Philanthropists in KL and Sentul who donated
substantial sums to the School and in November, the Building Contract
was awarded to Messrs How Lim & Co and the late Mr. J. R. Vethavanam
as the Supervising Architect.
The construction of the new School building was completed.
On April 27, the Honourable
Mr. S. W. Jones, the British
Resident of Selangor arrives for
the opening ceremony of the new
school building.
The Opening Ceremony was
simple yet impressive!
1939:
1940:
By December, the invasion of
Malaya by the Japanese Forces, Rev. P.
L. Peach was forced to leave Malaya.
1941:
The Australian Imperial Forces make its Headquarters in the School
building and the School and its surroundings looked like an armed camp
with the temporary barracks all about.
The School functioned in the Sentul
Convent School in the afternoons for a
year.
Mr. Lim Chin Kheng(Principal: 1942 – 1945 & 1946 – 1947)
On June 30, the Indian Army, under
the Authority of the Nippon Military
Administration, was able to restored the
building back to the School.
On July 1, the School reopened under
the name of “Sentul Boys’ Gakko” with
Mr. Lim Chin Kheng as the Principal.
1942:
1946:
1945: With the end of the war, the Education Department under the British
Military Administration authorised Mr. William Dudley to re-open the
School in October.
Mr. Lim Chin Kheng was once again
appointed as the Principal in February.
1947: Mr. Lim Chin Kheng was transferred to
VI in January and Mr. William Dudley was
once again took over as the Principal until
Mr. William Dudley(Principal: 1945 – 1946 &
1947 – 1948)
once again took over as the Principal until
December when he went on leave.
1948: Mr. T. K. Cheong was appointed as the
Principal in In January and at the request
of the Education Department, a special
Malay Class was started in the School with
the admittance of 36 Malay Pupils .
1950: Mr. T. K. Cheong took over as MBS KL as Acting Principal in March
and Rev. J. A. P. Oswald succeeded him as the principal.

The School published its first magazine known as “The Sentinel”
under the leadership of Rev. Oswald.
1952: During Rev. J. A. P. Oswald’s tenure as the principal, 8 new classrooms
and a Science Laboratory were built. The House and the Prefect System
was also introduced by Rev. Oswald.
The School which had hitherto been a feeder to MBS KL applied for
permission, which was duly granted, to start a Secondary Section.
1952: A new Science Laboratory were built behind the School Hall under Rev.
Oswald.
Mr. K. V. Thaver succeeded Rev.
J. A. P. Oswald as the principal in
January. With approval of the
Secondary Section granted in 1952,
Mr. Thaver embarked on a “daring”
building project i.e. the new
Secondary Building, which he so
successfully completed and would
have undoubtedly unnerved a lesser
man!
1953:

The School presented its fist
batch of students for the Senior
School Certificate Examinations.
1954:
Amongst this successful batch of
students is none other than Tan Sri
Azman Hashim who eventually
became a Chartered Account at an
early age of 22!

1955: Mr. K. V. Thaver successfully completed the Secondary in 1955.
1955: In November 1955, DYMM Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah Ibni
Almarhum Sultan Alaiddin Sulaiman Shah officiated the opening the
Secondary Block.

1957:
On November 1,
En. Khir bin Johari,
then the Education
Minister, officiated
the opening of the
Workshop.
Mr. Thaver retired
With the expanding enrolment in the Primary Section, Mr. Thaver
appointed Mr. Wong Lai Yuen to be in charge of the Primary
Department.
Mr. Thaver retired
on December 31.
The seeds of the
formation of the OBA
were sown by some
ardent old boys alongwith the late Mr. William Dudley and the late Mr. Arthur G Lee.
In early 1957, after a series of meetings that a Protem Committee was
formed with Mr. T. A. Jegaraj as the Chairman and Mr. S. Perampalam as
the Secretary.
1958: Mr. Kok Ah Too assumed duties as the Principal of the School and at
the same the, the Pure Science and Additional Mathematics syllabi were
introduced for the Secondary Section.
During the same time, the
Secondary and Primary
Sections of the School
became two separate entities,
namely, the Methodist Boys’
Secondary School and the
Methodist Boys PrimaryMethodist Boys Primary
School.
In the years following this
separation, separate facilities
such as classrooms and other
ancillary facilities were built to
accommodate the growing
needs of the Primary School. Mr. Koo Ah Too(Principal: 1958 – 1960)
With the completion of the separation of the Secondary & Primary
Schools, Mr. Wong Lai Yuen became the first Headmaster of the
Primary School.
1958:
1959: The Inaugural General Meeting
of the OBA was held in the School
Hall on April 18 whereby Mr. Walter
Loh Poh Khan was elected as
President and Mr. Alexander
Verghese were elected as the Vice
President.
The Old Boys’ Association’s
application for registration was
approved on October 2.

1960: The Old Boys’ Association’s 1st
Annual General Meeting was held
on October 29 which saw Mr. Walter
Loh Poh Khan retained as the President and Mr. Chan Weng Chiu elected
as the Vice President.
Mr. Kwong Sea Khoon took over as the Principal of the School after
Mr. Kok Ah Too went on leave in February.1960:
The Secondary School built a
new building housing 4 additional
classrooms & a Science Laboratory.
1961: The School celebrated its Silver
Jubilee.
A Canteen was also built to

Secondary and Primary Schools as
well as the Methodist Afternoon
School using our Schools’ facilities
back then.
A new 2-storey building

1968: Mrs. S. Roberts was appointed as Acting Headmistress of the
Primary School after Mr. Wong Lai Yuen left to take up a post in MBPS
KL at the end of 1967.
Mr. Sam Paranjothy was
appointed as the new Headmaster
of the Primary School.
1972:

1975: Upon the retirement of Mr. Kwong, Mr. K. G. Zachariah, the Physics
Teacher, took over the helm of the Secondary School.
After the retirement of Mr.
Zachariah, Mr. Clarence P.
Wijasuriya was appointed as the
Principal of the Secondary School.
1979:

1979: The Primary School officially handed over Tower Block to the
Secondary School.
1980:In the same year
Mrs. Janet Ho became the Acting Headmistress of the Primary School.
A new 3 room block was built connecting the Secondary Block and the
Tower Block during the tenure ship of Mr. Wijasuriya.

1982: Mr. Yong Ah Keh took over as the Headmaster of the Primary School
from Mrs. Janet Ho.

1988: Mr. A. Atputharaja was appointed as the Principal of the Secondary
School.
Mr. Lee Hung Yen took over the
helm of the Primary School as the
Headmaster.
1988:

1993: En. Ahmad bin Buyong was appointed as the Headmaster of the
Primary School, taking over from Mr. Lee Hung Yen.
Miss Moey Yoke Lai took over from
Mr. Atputharaja as the Secondary School’s
Principal.
1999:

1999: Mr. Ooi Hock Leong was appointed as the Headmaster of the Primary
School, taking from En. Ahmad bin Buyong.
Since 1961 and after half century of
sharing a canteen with the Primary
School, the Secondary School finally got
their very own canteen largely due to the
untiring efforts of the OBA and the
generosity of YB Tan Sri Azman Hashim.
2001:

Mr. Ooi Hock Leong(Headmaster: 2000 – 2003)
2001: Since 1961 and after half century of sharing a canteen with the
Primary School, the Secondary finally got their very own canteen largely
due to the untiring efforts of the OBA and the generosity of YB Tan Sri
Azman Hashim.
The new canteen was named as “Bangunan Azman Hashim” houses
the OBA Office/Hall on the 1st Floor and the Secondary School’s canteen
on the ground floor.

2001: Mrs. Ann Lee Chii Yuann took over the helm of the Secondary School,
as Miss Moey left the School to take up a position in another school.
2002: Mr. Cheng Thian Soo was
appointed as the Headmaster of the
Primary School, taking over from Mr.
Ooi Hock Leong.

2003: Mrs. S. Thavamani G Samy took over the leadership of the Primary
School as the Headmistress, taking over from Mr. Cheng Thian Soo.
2004: Mrs. Leong Lai Thong took over
the helm of the Secondary School as
the Principal.

2007: Mr. Lim Hean Hwa was appointed as the Secondary School’s
Principal replacing Mrs. Leong.
2009: Mr. Lim was in turn replaced by
Mr. Ong Boon Puah as the Principal
of the Secondary School.

2010: The Sentul MBS OBA celebrated its Golden Jubilee and a Grand
Dinner was held on October 30.
During the same, the Secondary
and Primary Sections of the School

Boys Primary School.
